The "Army Navy" in the PLAN is also wrong- a better translation is "Armed Forces Navy" or "Military Sea Fleet".

First generatiion of Red Army leaders like Zhou En Lai, Deng Xiao Ping and many others were students in France. Thus the French influence should not be understated when a foreign name for 人民解放军 was formalised.

The French Air and Space Force (AAE) (: Armée de l'Air et de l'Espace, lit. 'Army of the Air and Space') is the and of the .

解放军 should be translated strictly as the Liberation Military as 军 is not Army ( 陆军）, or translated as Liberation Armed Forces. But PLA does sound much better.

The PLA started as a guerilla army w/o any distinctive branches as it is today.
IMO, it's high time to rename it People's Republic of China Armed Forces with branches as PRCArmy, PRCAF, PRCN, PRC Strategic Support Service, PRCArmed Militia, & PRCCoast Guard.

Nah, they won't do that. People's liberation army may not be technically accurate today, but being the PLA is now a big part of their marketing/branding.

Yes, it'll stay as is until a new form of gov. is established there.
Japan has an Emperor but it's not an empire anymore; China isn't a true republic as she has a Chairman, a de-facto Emperor, & is still called Middle Kingdom in Chinese; the USA is considered as a "constitutional republic" but in fact an empire modeled on the bygone Roman & British Empires; Russia is called "Federation" but is also a hybrid empire that replaced the Byzantium & the Golden Horde in Eurasia.
The PRC better start following Confucius' (whom she rehabilitated) dictum about using proper names for everything.

Its important to note that the PLA is being commanded by the Party and not the state.

It would be more accurate to rename it to Party's armed forces than giving it a PRC name

the CCP controls the PRC, & it would be goofy to name armed forces as CCPA/N/AF.

well party and state are essential one thing in China, you have more party member than civil servants, so I'm not sure how you can seperate them...
