What do you mean "grandiose statement"? I am always very, very specific with the words I use when sharing my opinion online. Partly because it pays to be precise, and partly because it is the correct way to interact when you have good knowledge of a specific subject.

I re-iterate. There is zero chance the Captain of a modern SSN of any nationality will choose to surface his ship in peace time due to sonar interference. This is against doctrine, orders and common sense. It has nothing to do with hot-headedness. We are talking about a court-martial offense here.

I found a radar that is supposedly tested in 2020. I can't identify this radar. A new ship class or modernization incoming?

Those rumors - especially as brought forward - are a complete and utter fabrication, something pretty evident to anyone that understands even in a rudimentary degree the specifics at hand.

Thank you for this feedback. After spending some time with Google I have been unable to locate any instances of a nuclear submarine surfacing due to sonar pressure or other forms of harassment outside of friendly exercises. While the lack of results is hardly definitive, it is suggestive in light of the incidents that did turn up in my search, including the detection and hounding to the surface of both Soviet and American diesel-electric boats such as several Soviet Foxtrot-class boats in 1962 and the USS Gudgeon in 1957 and the detection without hounding to the surface of SSNs such as USS Swordfish in 1963.
