Electromagnetic firefighting gun (operated by Sichuan forestry firefighters) has a range of 700 meters and fire 10 rounds per charge, with each round capable of covering 20 square meters.
A patent from CSIC's 713 Research Institute on a hybrid electromagnetic/propellant-driven launcher used for fighting forest fires. The patent calls for a two-barrel design: an inner barrel is nestled inside an outer barrel. The projectile is first accelerated electromagnetically by the coils embedded in the outer barrel, then the propellant at the bottom of the inner barrel is ignited, further boosting the velocity and range of the projectile. Basically, this design appears to be a traditional mortar/grenade launcher inside a coil gun.
