@siegecrossbow Is this the first time the PLA has competed on this military event? I read that U.S. participated for the 1st time back in 2019 and they were apparently the first and then only first time competitors to finish the event which was something to be hailed for. So China able to send it's team and placing 3rd is pretty impressive accomplishments for these soldiers who had competed in what's considered as one of the most arduous and challenging winter event. Big Congratulations to the PLA team.

Not really fair if you think about it. PLA gets to practice on 4KM elevation terrain for shits and giggles whereas most other contestants are lucky to find 2KM mountains.

The U.S. team brags about their hard training and preparation. Them boys from VNG were trained to do better this year (target to finish in top 10)

that included 4,000 meters of elevation change. Over the course of the competition, teams had to traverse high consequence terrain and show their proficiency in challenging mountain rescue and military skill events. Team USA managed something no other team has before: They finished the race on their first try.

“The best part of the Raid for the team was achieving our goal of finishing with all eight participants” says Maj. Nathan Fry, a Vermont National Guardsman and training officer at the Army Mountain Warfare School in Vermont. “We took the race slow and steady, worked at everyone’s pace, and shared the load so that we could all cross the finish line together.”
All the training leading up to the Raid paid off for the U.S. team, as they were prepared for every obstacle they faced during the race. If anything surprised the team, it was the conditions they encountered in Austria.

On this note, Ayi and friends note in that first video PLA was cooking instant noodle (plus slices of spam and egg) in a pot while other teams are eating reheated MRE.

Someone notes this in particular is a demonstration of practical experience operating in the cold and at high elevation. Someone else in that chat was asking "what's wrong with reheated MRE?" and was told he will get why it's a bad idea if he goes to Xinjiang Military District and eat MRE for 2 days.

So yeah apparently hot soupy food is important under those conditions, I wouldn't have known either.

Someone else suggests cooking instant noodle and letting the nice smell waff around is being nice about it. If the PLA team wanted to be in your face about this they could have brought DIY HaiDiLao hotpot instead.

Yeah but the PLA team consisted of Uighur soldiers whose family will be personally executed by Xinnie the Pooh if they failed to perform up to par so they had way better motivations to perform well than soldiers from democratic countries.
