PLA Anti-Air Missile (SAM) systems

The thing is Iran lacks a fully integrated IADS. They do not have modern fighter aircraft to cover gaps in SAM coverage. They don't have AEW&C aircraft, etc. And they lack China's satellite recon complexes.
They had it, and trained it extensively in 2023...25. You can track big joint exercises between IRGC and IRIADF, they were specifically about that (as a reply to underperformance of the original system, where true IADS was developed only for the army, - and it couldn't stop even token Israeli attacks).
IADS isn't that hard of a system nowadays if one is willing, relatively straighforward software and enough hardware.

At this point it seems that the very existence of IADS was part of their downfall - big integrated system was collapsed early on anyway, resistance-type IRGC was compromised by that very IADS (maybe directly through hacked spatial data) and failed to disperse.

Iran indeed has very difficult terrain and lots of old ADF SAMs - but well, so, until very recently, did even the PLAAF(HQ-2 didn't really go that long ago, and both Iran and China use relatively similar solution to that problem - HQ-22 is conceptually kinda similar to Khordad-15 ... and there are certain rumors that it's beyond concepts, as NORINCO is an integral part of iranian SAM development).

Big lessons of Iran (and, to a lesser degree, Russia) -
(1)beware of Greeks bearing gifts.
(2)wide availability of drones is threat.
(3)unsuppressed 5th column is a threat.

What would this system be used for?

Actually there's some evidence that the Iranian air defense network was not particularly integrated even before the recent attacks.

Even if you don't consider the source trustworthy, I am not willing to give the Iranians the benefit of doubt at this point, considering their performance.

An integrated air defense system should be more resilient than a non-integrated system because any parts of the network that are degraded should in theory be replaced by redundant systems. In theory anyways.

The PLAAF has a more resilient IADS by basically any metric. The scale of the two systems is not comparable.

Would like a source on this. Iran has tended to reject most Chinese help in developing their equipment, though of course they still use Chinese suppliers.

Agree with these.

TN-2 SAM form Guide Infrared.

Missile use Stirling Cycle Cooled infrared imaging seeker, effective altitude 15 ~ 6000 meters, effective range 13000 meters.

The launch vehicle only has a photoelectric optics system, unlike the HQ-13 which has infrared&radar guidance, so it should be cheaper. Reminds me of the high-low configuration of the HJ-12

There is a rumour that Egypt has fielded HQ-9Bs.

Confirmation of the deployment came from retired Egyptian Army Major General Samir Farag, who, during an interview with state television, lifted the lid on a move that is sending tremors through regional airpower balances.

In that televised interview, Farag disclosed that Egypt has integrated several cutting-edge systems, including the HQ-9B, describing it as a platform with capabilities comparable — and in some respects superior — to Russia’s S-400 Triumf and the U.S.-made Patriot PAC-3.

Not exactly recent news, but I can't find the interview in question.
