Would be interesting to see a picture of the door pit on the ground to see how they manage drainage but also damage or debris from airstrike. A couple of cement chunks or deformations from a bomb and you can have problems.

This is the best one I have. Not many details unfortunately, but it appears the pit is sloped away from the hangar.

May be more trouble than it's worth. If something bulky or heavy falls into the pit, the door can't go down all the way.
These doors make sense if you have good base repair ops and basing capacity in other places to compensate for operational delay as you’re repairing infrastructure. It doesn’t make as much sense if you’re counting on singular bases to sustain ops despite damage but a bunker that’s struck and damaged to the extent you’re suggesting is likely to impair movement of the equipment inside anyways so you might as well protect the equipment.

If the aircraft survives to fight another day, definitely worth it.

I know that is way more likely than F-16 block 60. But the blanket media blackout on the whole exercise is a little suspicious. Not a pip from either Chinese or UAE media. What are they hiding?

This is UAE's first exercise with the PLA of this nature, so being very low profile about it makes some sense so as to deprive media of oxygen to write about it.

The non-existent coverage could very easily be explained by that alone without needing to think about anything additional like "secretly sending F-16E/Fs"

Some PAF among the UAE contingent may have taken part in PAF-PLAAF exercises before.

That's throwing out the baby with the bath water?

That amount of debris raining down that close to the HAS ... the structure probably saved the $100m asset inside.

I will gladly take the few hours delay to restore function over writing off a $100m combat aircraft any day of the week (and especially on Day 0 of AR)

China does not need press. It needs to build military relationships.

btw, interesting talk here from shilao and yankee.
They talked about China & Pakistan AF are close enough now where PAF coming over for Shaheen is like just internal event.

Also, they mentioned that Chinese pilots don't hear HMDS more often for opsec reasons. I have to listen to rest of this clip now.

It's amazing I have to listen to so much of them talking 0 value stuff to get a few good nuggets.
