According to the , the image below shows 's model for testing the stability control system of a V/STOL aircraft.
Previously, 601's director (赵霞) mentioned that there are four variants to a new generation aircraft. I now wonder if they include a V/STOL variant of the J-31/35. The test model certainly resembles a J-31/35.

Probably just a generic representative vstol airframe.
An actual vstol variant of J-XY/35 or FC-31 would be an entirely new aircraft.
I also don't think a vstol aircraft is actively under development, instead those efforts are likely just r&d efforts as part of general technological development and building a technical reserve.
