You know, I recall reading a discussion on this forum about converting old planes (I don't think they were J-6s) into drones. I can't remember the specifics and I don't care enough to go search for it, but there was a member who suggested it and they were shot down (heh) saying that these were too old, that the metal was better used to create newer, more capable purpose-built drones, and that the metal in the old planes was probably in an Iphone or something.

I remember the discussion ending on some "patriotic iPhone, made from old Chinese Planes!" or something.

Well clearly these planes aren't yet iPhones.

The last post was my joke.

A lot of posters (including myself) were not arguing the feasibility, but rather the cost-effectiveness of such a conversion.
Reading the actual article and some of the tweet responses, it's still questionable whether this represents something still in production.

1. Only 2 bases known to be operating such aircraft
2. Poor payload (3 hardpoints) which is worse than purpose built drones
3. Stationed at a known training base
4. Seems to be developed in 2013 (making them quite old in drone-years on top of actual years)
5. (Could be wrong about this) I don't see any EO-turret or any other typical sensors we commonly see on the strike drones. Could still mean these are used as decoys, but again, the question is how active is this program?

There are very strong hints cycling in the Chinese SNS that J35 made its maiden taxiing run.

Let's wait for couple days

That model doesn't look as if its horizontal tails are encroaching on the trailing edge of the wings, as it was suggested previously. (similar to what F-22 has)
Anyway, there are just 3 more days left in October so we'll see...

I noticed this too, but just as I wrote in the J-35 thread I'm actually a bit concerned, since @louischeung rarely differs between true news from official and reliable sources, pure and sometimes stupid rumours or even fan-art and faked information.

Anyway let's stay tuned ... since there are only 3 1/2 days left in October.
