In an interview, Wang Xiaomo said that more than 30 patents have been registered. KJ-2000 AESA radars range and scanning angle are the largest in the world. Its aim is to make China becoming the world leader in radar technology field. Its new direction of current research is small platform but high capacity in order to break imported platform dependency.

Basically a comparison of KJ-2000 to others type of foreign AWACS(A-50, IAF Phalcon, E-3A).

First one compare is detecting distance, follow by number of targets, distance, speed and endurance.

The thing is having specs is one thing but knowing the capability is another

How many times have we seem AWACS being advertised saying they can detect hundreds of aircraft at hundreds of Kms away, its just generic data which has very little relavence to real life situation, I mean how likely is it that a lone AWACS will be operating close to few hundred enemy fighters these days, and it would be made mince meat before it could been rely any of the information

A modern sophisticated AWACS like the E3 Sentry can see small speed boats traveling at very high speed up shallow rivers, they can not only see enemy aircraft but also identify them and categorise the threats but checking what likely missiles they are carrying, E3 can not only detect but also give precise information on the high, speed and direction of travel

A modern AWACS is not just a flying radar station they also have formidable jamming capabilitys and the abilities to transfer massive amounts of data to other friendly platforms, this is the capability of a modern AWACS not just some numbers pulled out on a brochure

I know also that the RAF E3D can process and analyse all this information on board without the need to communicate anything to a ground based station which speeds up the time it takes to make a decision on how to deal with the threat

I am hoping in the future Pakistan releases some information on the ZDK-03 then we will know the true sophistication of the Chinese AWACS systems
