KJ-500 AWACS a recent photo

I really like this aircraft a modern updated version of the Pakistani ZDK-03 AWACS, rotodome on a good size platform and with good capabilitys

No doubt the KJ-500 platform has a longer range and better lift capacity for PLAAF owing so the larger air space it would have to cover for China, Pakistan has little strategic depth so it doesn't really require a more modern platform other what they have got ZDK-03 fits Pakistans doctrine and KJ-500 fits PLAAF

However I wonder how much different both units are when it comes to datalink and communication and wether a JF-17 Block II could communicate with a Chinese KJ-500

That would be something both country's could work on in the future and would greatly enchance both air forces integration and joint excercises

Better as KJ-200 because provide a full 360° coverage while KJ-200 get

the radar in "balance beam" configuration is unable to scan directly the forward and rear directions of the aircraft thus lacks the full 360° coverage

Balance beam does not necessary mean it's "unable" to scan in the forward and rear hemispheres

If you go on the Saab Erieye website there was a video which shows the coverage a balance beam gives and actually it's not that bad but with rotodome you can get better coverage over blue water operations, a rotodome AWACS can pick up small boats and speedboats at very long range not sure if balance beam would be as good

Maybe that's why PAF Erieye is based in the North and ZDK-03 based in the South to cover Indian Ocean
