In the end, the Secretary of the Navy will be most interested and influenced by US signators, bit it will not hurt to have such support from other places as well. We've already had a few.
Sign as an interested and supporting party. There is nothing to keep ypu from doing so, and as the author of the petition I will not ask your name to be removed. Just indicate the very thing you said right here.

There probably won't be another Yorktown or Hornet or Midway as long as those ships are museums...
If you guys are ever in San Diego be sure you visit the Midway museum. It's right downtown at the foot of Broadway..

Signed. Really hope US carriers go back to 'proper' names, and politicians have something more appropriate to give their names to. Do you still have Garbage Scows? Or how about penitentiariies, which is the final destination for a lot of politicos worldwide these days...

That said, the British are smart with their choice of naming rules...

Yes they sure are. In the US we were once smart but now politics have their grubby paws in the mix. It started when Pres. Kennedy was assassinated nearly 50 years ago.
Destroyers are still named for military persons of note. Seems now LHA/LHDs are now adorned with the famous names CVs once had.
LPDs are named properly after counties or cities except one..LPD 26 will be named John Murtha...Horrible.
