i love to see those f-16s in Iraq( Iran:) )

Have not seen your postings until today. Welcome to the forum SH. I see you're from Iran. I believe you may be the first Iranian to join the board in recent memory. I look forward to your contributions as I'm always keen to learn from others whom I may not always have a chance to interact with.
I think the mods here would agree that we're all friends here even if we may not necessarily agree on everything all of the time. God knows I'm about as far from perfect myself.
Pls feel free to introduce yourself in more detail in the members thread.

Funny thing the F16 and Iran, the Shah had over 150 x F16 on order back in the 1970s with another 150 x F16 as opinion

In total Iran had over 300 x F16 on order from USA the deal was cancelled when the revolution happened in 1979 and the Chinook fleet was targeted at over 120 units!!! Believe that that's 120 Chinooks helicopters even UK today is about half that

Much of the equipment and units ended up going to Pakistan and Israel for their respective F16 fleets

There is some that suggest that Iran was about to receive the F16 ground equipment within months leading up to the revolution it was pretty close another year and Iran would have had few dozen F16s

Having said that they did get 79 x F14 Tomcats the only foreign country ever to operate this type operational to this very day

To the contrary, there are lots of things, and very good technology in the later block F-16s that the US would not like people like ISIS, or Iran, or others to get ahold of.

My guess is precisely that the US admin is not comfortable with the Iraqis being able to protect those aircraft and having one of those players get their hands on some of them.

They are smart IMHO to hold off until the Iraqi government is more stable and its military proves itself capable of defending its own bases.

The F-16s, if armed with the proper weapons, would be effective in attacking ISIS, or in defending Iraq against Iran.
But they can't be delivered until they are no longer necessary. Like the old saw of the banker who is happy to lent you an umbrella until it starts to rain.

‘Milestone’ military cooperation pact signed with Russia
AFP
Updated 2 days ago

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Russia signed a “milestone” military cooperation pact on Thursday aimed at bringing peace and stability in the region, Islamabad's defence ministry said.

The agreement was signed during a meeting by Russian Defence Minister General Sergei Shoigu, who is on a day-long official visit to Pakistan, with his counterpart Khawaja Asif.

“The signing of the military cooperation agreement between the two significant countries of the region is a milestone,” Asif said after the signing ceremony in a ministry statement.

“Both sides will translate this relationship in tangible terms and further strengthen military to military relations,” Asif added.

The pair expressed hope that the agreement will pave the way for exchange of views and information, as well as issues related to strengthening of mutual trust and international security, counter-terrorist and arms control activities.

“The first ever visit of the defence minister from Russian Federation has come at a very critical juncture when US led Nato forces are drawing down from Afghanistan by the end of 2014,” the statement said.

“Apart from promoting bilateral defence relations, the visit will enable both countries to join hands in bringing peace and stability in the region,” it added.

Russia has long been the largest supplier of arms to India, the nuclear-armed arch rival of Pakistan, which is the world's top arms buyer.

The country's ITAR-TASS news agency reported in June that Russia had lifted its embargo on arms supplies to Pakistan and was holding talks on supplying Islamabad with combat helicopters.

Shoigu, who is accompanied by a 41-member high level delegation, commended the skill and expertise of Pakistani armed forces in fighting the war against terrorism, the Pakistani defence ministry said.

“The world community not only praises but wants to do business with Pakistan now,” it quoted Shoigu as saying.

Islamabad keen to enhance ties with Moscow: Nawaz

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan is keen to enhance its multi-dimensional relations with Moscow, including defence.

Speaking to Defence Minister of Russian Federation General Sergei Shoigu, who met him here, he said that it was heartening to see that relations between Pakistan and Russian Federation have grown in the past few years.

The prime minister stressed upon the need to increase bilateral trade between the two countries which currently stands at $542 million and does not correspond to their trade potential.

He invited Russian companies to invest in Pakistan particularly in the energy sector and benefit from the business friendly policies of his government.

The premier lauded Russia's support to become full member of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and said that Pakistan was ready to further enhance cooperation with other countries of the region, through this forum to counter the dual challenges of terrorism and drug trafficking – APP

I only read the Dawn article. But I can imagine that within SCO, of which Pakistan will soon be a member, cooperation between the security services is to be deveoped.
