The report said that the destroyer Sabalan and the logistic helicopter carrier Khark will be dispatched on a three-month voyage.

Sabalan is not a Destroyer but one Frigate, in fact one Corvette belongs to the Alvand-class.

Don' t worry :)

It's not the class of the equipment it's mainly for home public opinion and publicity gesture to do such things

Arab country's will pop in a multi billion order for Western arms after this deployments it's all international politics

Having said that it shows Iran is ready to improve its logistical and navigation skills deploying ships far away from home shores I hope they re-integrate back into the world community

Yep. The Iranians call it a destroyer, but in reality it is an old Vosper Mark V class corvette, launched in 1969, and commissioned in 1972 (42 years ago) that displaces 1,500 tons with a 4.5 inch gun and 4 missiles and no helo pad or hanger. Totally antiquated in any modern naval engagement. Good only for coastal patrol duties against pirates, smugglers, or drug trafficing.

The other ship is a replenishment oiler, the Khark, which was a modified Royal Navy Ol Class replenishment design built for Iran in 1977 and delivered in 1984 (30 years ago). It displaces 33,000 tons.

As to projecting power? Phht! No power at all. As Asif says, it is for political consumption at home, nothing more. Militarily they would only be targets, and easy ones at that.

The UAE is requesting 30 F-16 Block 61's and upgrades to their existing F-16 fleet:

United Arab Emirates – Equipment in Support of a Direct Commercial Sale of F-16 Block 61 Aircraft

WASHINGTON, Jan 24, 2014 – The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress on Jan 23 of a possible Foreign Military Sale to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for equipment in support of a Direct Commercial Sale of F-16 Block 61 Aircraft and associated equipment, parts, training and logistical support for an estimated cost of $270 million.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has requested a possible sale of equipment in support of its commercial purchase of 30 F-16 Block 61 aircraft and to support the upgrade of its existing F-16 Block 60 aircraft. Major Defense Equipment includes: 40 20mm M61A Guns; and 40 Embedded GPS Inertial Navigation Systems. Also included: Identification Friend or Foe Equipment; Joint Mission Planning System; night vision devices; Cartridge Activated Device/Propellant Activated Devices; Weapons Integration; spare and repair parts; tools and test equipment; personnel training and training equipment; publications and technical documentation; International Engine Management Program - Component Improvement Program; repair and return; aerial refueling support; ferry maintenance and services; site surveys; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated cost is $270 million.

This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by to improve the security of a friendly country that has been, and continues to be, an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East. The proposed sale will improve the UAE’s capability to meet current and future regional threats. The UAE continues host-nation support of vital U.S. forces stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base; plays a vital role in supporting U.S. regional interests; and has proven to be a valued partner and an active participant in overseas contingency operations.

The sale of additional F-16s to the UAE is consistent with U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives. The UAE will have no difficulty absorbing this additional equipment and support into its armed forces. The proposed sale of equipment, services, and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.

The principal contractor will be Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Ft. Worth, Texas. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale.

Implementation of this sale will require the assignment of additional U.S. Government or contractor representatives to the UAE. The actual number required to support the program will be determined in joint negotiations as the program proceeds through the development, production, and equipment installation phases.

There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this sale.

This notice of a potential sale is required by law and does not mean the sale has been concluded.

This will be another new variant of the F-16, probably building on the existing F-16 Block 60's. We are probably looking at them replacing parts from the 60 with parts on the F-16V update, for commonality and upgrades of parts that are obsolete, or out of production.

Incredible the current F16 UAE operates are not Fighting Falcons they are Desert Falcons the most advanced F16s in the world and now they request a further upgrade?

Even the Mirage fleet was 2000-9 not 2000-5 and they are looking at Rafale, too much money I guess

Hope PAF pilots to have a flying experience on this world's most modern F16s, since they already flying UAE's Mirage 2k9s & F16 blk60s.

Another suspected Israeli air strike against Syria:

TEL AVIV — Israel is said to have again attacked Syria’s military.

Opposition sources said the Israel Air Force struck a Syrian military facility in the Mediterranean port of Latakia.
Sources said an Israeli air strike targeted Russian-made missiles intended for Hizbullah.

The sources said the Israeli attack appeared to have targeted a warehouse that contained the Russian-origin S-300PMU2 air defense system.

“We heard massive explosions just outside the port,” a source said.

The latest strike, reported on early Jan. 27, marked the latest attempt to destroy the S-300 fleet in Syria. The sources said Israel conducted at least two attempts to destroy the long-range air defense system, stationed in Latakia, in 2013.

Syria was said to have received components of the S-300 in mid-2013. The system, with a range of more than 200 kilometers, could down Israeli fighter-jets in the air space of the Jewish state.

A number of different things create large secondary explosions, and it isn’t clear that Russia has delivered any complete S-300 systems. Israel has destroyed P-800 Oniks supersonic strike missiles at Latakia before, and there were reports that some were left over. Or, the Israelis decided to send a message and destroy initial S-300 components, to warn off any 2014 deliveries. Or, they hit something else. Either way, the Israeli's and the Syrians aren't acknowledging what happened.

I know of a Turkish blogger who logs all the movements of the Russian warships through the Turkish straits from the Black Sea to the Mediterranean and last year this is the following transits

39 South bound transits of Russian warships mostly cargo vessals

And 52 North bound vessals

That's total of 91 transits last year in 2013 thats one every four days

It's also been noted they are loaded on the way South bound and unloaded North bound by looking at the waterline

They pass Cyprus and unloads at Latakia, Russia is the number one supplier to Assad without Russia Assad would be gone with no supply

In 2014 so far we have

3 South bound and 2 North bound transits of Russian warships

DCNS has handed over the multimission frigate Mohammed VI to the Royal Moroccan Navy on time, on budget and with performance as promised. This is the second vessel of this type designed and built by DCNS in a production run of 12 ships for the French and Moroccan Navies. The Mohammed VI benefits from the same technological and production innovations as the FREMM frigates for the French Navy. The Royal Moroccan Navy will acquire the ship’s weapon systems and munitions directly from its own selected suppliers.
