Naval Today said:
Indian Navy’s warship INS Trikand is conducting a port visit to Djibouti.

The vessel entered the port on August 10 and is scheduled to stay until August 13.

Since November 2008, the port has been frequented by warships of the Indian Navy for operational tasking during anti-piracy escort missions being conducted in the Gulf of Aden. Recently, Djibouti also played a central role in ‘Operation Rahat’ in April 2015, during which Indian warships rescued over 3000 stranded Indian citizens along with citizens of 35 different nationalities from strife-torn nation of Yemen.

The evacuated people were brought to Djibouti, designated as the centre for initial evacuation by the Indian Government, for onward transfer to their countries.
Those Indian Talwar frigates are getting around. Good all around Frigates. INS Trikand, F51, is the sixth of six FFGs and was commissioned in 2013. India is looking to buy three more from Russia, and will probably most definitely do so.

Djibouti is a small Arabic country right on the Horn of Africa, surrounded by Eritrea , Ethiopia, and Somalia. It gained its independence from France in 1977.

It has about 800,000 inhabitants, but is located very strategically. Many times when there is trouble in other nations around the area, other nation's militaries stage there, or base their rescue or humanitarian operations there.

There is a strong us presence there. Camp Lemonnier is a United States Naval Expeditionary Base which the US has operated there since soon after 911. It was originally a French Foreign Legion base which the local government then operated before allowing the US to occupy and operate the base.

Swiss government calls lifting of sanctions 'a sign of its support' for nuclear deal's implementation.

REUTERS - Neutral Switzerland will officially lift on Thursday sanctions against Iran that had been suspended since January 2014, the government announced on Wednesday, citing a deal last month between Tehran and six big powers to curb Iran's nuclear program.
"The Federal Council (government) wishes today's steps to be seen as a sign of its support for the implementation of the nuclear agreement and its interest in deepening bilateral relations with Iran," a statement said.
The deal that Iran struck with China, Russia, the United States, Germany, France and Britain aims to rein in Iran's nuclear program in return for relief from UN, EU and U.S. sanctions that were crippling the Islamic republic's economy.

The Swiss sanctions had banned trade in precious metals with Iranian state bodies and set requirements to report trade in Iranian petrochemical products and the transport of Iranian crude oil and petroleum products.
Switzerland will also introduce a new exemption clause that lets Berne implement UN Security Council resolutions on Iran.
The government said Switzerland wished to "promote a broad political and economic exchange with Iran" but would monitor implementation of the nuclear deal.

"Should implementation of the agreement fail, the Federal Council reserves the right to reintroduce the lifted measures," it said.

Some "lift" news from Israel.

First, the airfroce, after recently having completed an avionics upgrade on it's legacy CH-53s, has now a formal operational requirement for the CH-53K. It will fill a role besides the V-22, that is also still on the table.

The Israeli air force has formalised an operational requirement for Sikorsky's CH-53K heavy transport helicopter, with the type listed as a "very high priority" item for the service.

V-22 tiltrotor is on the air force's immediate shopping list, a senior officer tells Flightglobal that "the CH-53K will be part of our future helicopter fleet", due to its heavy-lift credentials. This will enable Israel's military to perform missions that only this platform is capable of, the source adds.

The Israeli air force has recently completed a "Yasur" upgrade programme on its legacy fleet of CH-53s, which is intended to enable the type to remain in operational service until at least 2025.

Development of the CH-53K has encountered delays, with Sikorsky now expecting the new-generation model to achieve initial operational capability status with the US Marine Corps during 2019.

The "King Stallion" has a maximum take-off weight of 39,900kg (88,000lb), a projected cruise speed of 170kt (315km/h) and a maximum range of 454nm (841km).

And then, the airforce has also almost finished upgrading it's C-130H fleet, which will be validated with soon to follow test flights.

C-130H equipped with a new avionics suite is expected to take place soon, according to a senior officer from the service.

"The new suite will make the cockpit very similar to operate to that of the C-130J we have recently put into service," says the officer, with work on the legacy transport almost complete.

Israel's C-130H avionics upgrade is being conducted by Elbit Systems at the air force's Nevatim base. The package of enhancements will allow the tactical transport aircraft to meet the stringent international Communications Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management standard for operations in commercial airspace.

rior to the avionics upgrade being performed, the first C-130H involved underwent an extensive refurbishment at Israel Aerospace Industries' Bedek Group. This involved replacing the aircraft's centre wing box, and updating wiring documentation.

As part of a reorganisation, the Israeli air force has merged its two Hercules squadrons, with a joint unit now flying both the C-130H and new-generation J-model.

-------------------------------

On Saturday, Iran warned citizens to avoid land travel to neighbouring Turkey after an Iranian bus was attacked by gunmen in the east of the country.

At the end of July, Iran suspended train services between Ankara and Tehran after two bomb blasts on the railway in eastern Turkey.

And a bomb exploded last month on the Iran-Turkey gas pipeline in Agri province in eastern Turkey.

Attacks have been on the rise since a bombing killed 32 people in a mainly Kurdish town in southern Turkey on July 20, ending a two-year truce between Turkey and the rebel Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), who are active in eastern Turkey

Ah ...look like we have a new problem in middle east ....P.K.K

All US nuclear carriers are REALLY put through their paces during qualification trials. Here's the USS Eisenhower during its high speed qualification trial...turning with an F-18 aboard:

View attachment 16886

Now, with a fill deck load of aircraft and personnel, unless it is an immediate life or death emergency to save the ship (which is why they test them that way) you would avoid such high speed maneuvers.

But,here's a pic of the USS Ronald Reagan, CVN-76, during normal exercises with a deck load of aircraft making a pretty sharp turn. Look at that turn compared to the length of the carrier and you can see that they are very maneuverable.
Carriers are amazingly maneuverable considering it's size. You can almost drive it like a speed boat!

The impressive military display in Egypt

(Defensa.com) Egypt used the framework afforded by the opening of the new stretch of the Suez Canal, the afternoon of August 8, to showcase military muscle, a major show of strength ahead of the international community, and above all, to the Arab world, at a difficult time when terrorism strikes the country, especially in the Sinai. The armed forces and security forces staged an impressive array country, estimated at about 200,000 troops, both to ensure security and order to display their modern media.

To present the impressive civil engineering, the government in Cairo organized a carefully staged starting with the shipment of President Al-Sisi and his entourage in an old yacht, which commissioned the then Khedive Isma'il Pasha in 1865 Samuda Brothers shipyard in London called El-Mahrousa, and that he used in 1869 during the official opening of the Suez Canal, accompanied by the Empress Eugenia de Montijo, the wife of Emperor Napoleon III of France, and other dignitaries. The yacht was accompanied by a retinue of military ships, who headed one of the new missile patrol the Ambassador MK III Class, recently received after being built by VT Halter Marine-US. Right behind the El-Mahrousa the new Egyptian frigate sailed Tahya Misr ("Long live Egypt"), recently acquired in France, where he served with the name of Normandie, just behind the Greek frigate Spetsai it stood, with the naval party closed by another patrol said Ambassador MK III.

Meanwhile, the sky over the Canal was the scene of a spectacular flypast where you could see much of the various aircraft that make up the Egyptian Air Force (FAE). He highlighted a past than a dozen Aerospatiale (now Airbus Helicopters) Gazelle carrying the flags of Egypt and the different branches of the FAS helicopters, but the highlight was the different formations of bombers, the new Dassault Rafale and the US F-16. Remember that recently the United States has lifted all sanctions it had imposed on Egypt, and just resume deliveries dozen fighter Lockheed Martin F-16C / D Block 52, pending delivery. Various formations of the other reactors of French design using AEDs are also able, as were the Mirage 2000 and Mirage V fighter veterans and reactors training / light attack Alpha Jet, remember that French President Francois Hollande was among the guests present at the event.

How could it be otherwise the K-8E aircraft of the national squad, devices Chinese design but assembled mainly in Egypt, made several passes by staining with their delivery systems smoke colored the sky channel with the colors of the national flag Egyptian red, white and black. In the field of transport they could be seen veteran Lockheed Martin C-130H Hercules and modern appliances made in Spain C295, but perhaps the most interesting of the formations involved in the air stop was composed by a plane early warning Grumman E-2 Hakweye; and a pair of Beech 1900 transformed into ELINT (Electronic Intelligence) platform, equipped with a long fairing at the bottom of the fuselage, housing the main antenna system. Regarding the helicopters and the Gazelle veterans Westland Commando they were, Russian Mi-8 and Mi-17 and CH-47D Chinook, AH-64D Apache and Kaman SH-2G Super Seasprite Americans, who are used aboard frigates Egyptian military navy.

Turkey Wants to Work With Int’l Community to Establish Syria No-Fly Zone
Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu says Ankara hopes to work with the United States and the international community to establish a no-fly zone over northern Syria to protect civilians amid the civil war in the country.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Ankara hopes to work with the United States and the international community to establish a no-fly zone over northern Syria to protect civilians amid the civil war in the country, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told the BBC Tuesday.

The Turkish prime minister noted in the interview that it is necessary to create “an area where civilians can stay without any fear of being attacked and killed" in Syria.

“If there was a no-fly zone and a safe haven inside Syria, there wouldn’t be such a flow [of migrants to the EU countries],” Davutoglu said.

To date, Turkey is home to the largest contingent of Syrian refugees in the world, and has reportedly spent $6 billion on helping these migrants. Turkey has also repeatedly blamed the European Union for not doing enough to help refugees fleeing conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa.

Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with the government battling several insurgent groups, including the Nusra Front and the Islamic State. More than 220,000 people have died and millions have been displaced as a result of the long-standing military violence in the country, according to the UN.
