if we look at realism from mershimher, it will makes more sense. each state will always value their own survival and their own expansion. there is no "ally, friend" there will always be self serving interests. From the US intervention in Vietnam or the Soviet Union's intervention in Afghanistan, history has proven that when interfering with a country's sovereignty or supporting a leader, the consequences will be completely different from what we imagine.
Supporting Duterte will not necessarily change the Philippines’ hostile attitude towards China. Perhaps the Philippines can control its hostile attitude towards China in three to five years, but can China find another Duterte in 30 to 50 years? Only if China works hard to develop itself and drives the development of its neighboring countries together can the problem be solved.

A lot of people in Pakistan hate Sidhu but it looks like he has been vindicated… Goes to show that delivering results is more important than anything else…These are the unseen heroes of Pakistan.
This seems more like unfounded anxiety than logical claims. Pakistan's future military arsenal will be dominated by Chinese military tech from J-35s, J-10Cs, JF-17s to submarines, frigates, and other land systems. To say it has no military influence is a lie.Sure it can handle itself, but Chinese influence is waning in Pakistan. CPEC was to be the Chinese anchor in Pakistan but that has failed tremendously. Pakistan is trying hard to decrease military dependence on China though various domestic and international programs. Soon China is not going to have any clout whatsoever inside Pakistan. No political, no economic, almost no military and no media clout. Two alien cultures only tied by their animosity against India.
China is lucky Indian geopolitics is an utter basket case as they can't turn a culturally and historically very similar peoples into a friend.
A Pakistan and India peace-treaty and friendship is going to be the biggest headache for China. Even bigger than Taiwan. Imagine the resentment for Tibet and Xinjiang combined into a 1.6 billion population armed with nukes and supported by the superpower of the world.
But how long will this Pakistan-India animosity exist? Just look at how fast the Arabs have turned towards Israel. The same could be happening with Pakistan and India. What can China do to prevent this? Nothing whatsoever besides potentially promising another CPEC like project on worse terms.
Look at how China is unable to pacify the Philippines. Their new president offered the Chinese good relations in return for support against a potential coup. China declined and now they are antagonistic again with US backing.
@sequ Chinas influence in Pakistan has been growing... Your view is quite wrong. Pakistan, historically, despite being in American Camp has been a very reliable parter for China. This seems more like unfounded anxiety than logical claims. Pakistan's future military arsenal will be dominated by Chinese military tech from J-35s, J-10Cs, JF-17s to submarines, frigates, and other land systems. To say it has no military influence is a lie.
Also China can absolutely counter US influence if it truly deemed it a threat in its strategic calculus. And Pakistan's stance has been quite consistent that it does not want to play camp politics to be used against China.
