for the new frigates I hope we can see the followong upgrades
-better integrated air defence with possible VLS
-more stealth on the bridge, hull and more like Type 054A
-addition of towed array sonar
the medium air and long range air defence of the F22P is not that good, we need a good medium and long range air defence on new frigates which can provided decicated airdefence with atleast 32 missiles
infact the only medium airdefence the F22P has is 8 non reloadable FM-90 SAMs, which is really a big shame, and if these were used to shot down anti-ship missiles they would have to be launched below <10km range
once all 8 missiles are exhaused its game over for F22P, as no extra storage is there for reloading these missiles
however hitting the F22P will still be tough, China has developed a second to none CIWS for F22Ps, two seven-barrel gatling guns of 30 mm calibre mounted side-by-side on the aircraft hangar with the off-mount sensors in between, it is called the Type 730B, the gun is controlled by off-mount sensors Type 347G radar and the OFC-3 electro-optic director
these 2 CIWS can provide cover on either beam and are very capable to down supersonic anti-ship missiles, even Type 054A and Type 052C does not have this kind of arrangement with regards to CIWS
Type 730B in either side of the hanger, with the SUR-17 in the background, search and fire control radars and backed up by an electro-optical sensor ‘ball' are visable in the centre line

This is actually the poor man's way of CIWS guidance. This arrangement is basically using one radar/EO guidance unit to control two CIWS guns, whereas the regular 730 has a radar and EO unit on each of its CIWS guns.

actually that is inncorrect, both CIWS are controlled by a larger, more powerful search and fire control radars than on the standard Type 730 CIWS, these in-turn are backed up by the electro-optical sensor, 2 x FCR and EOS can control a single mount giving a greater accuracy of fire as the electro-optical sensor can more accurately track the 30mm rounds
these systems all work independent of the rest of the ship and have their own power supply, in addition the dual purpose 76.2mm main gun is designed to work with the CIWS and can engage aerial threats, PN has conducted gunnery trials which were impressive

Both the 052C and the 054A have the SR64 Seagull dedicated target indication radars mounted on the top of high masts that can direct the standard Type 730's. In the case of the 052C this radar is inside the dome that sits at the highest point of the ship. In the case of the 054A this radar is inside the dome that is mounted immediately forward of the funnel. The F-22P has a less powerful target indication radar that is also mounted much lower on the ship, providing a poorer view of the horizon. Both the 052C and the 054A have 2 EO directors and 2 radar FCR's, 1 of each installed on each 730, whereas the F-22P only has a single EO director and a single radar FCR to control BOTH of the stripped down 730's. As I said, it is a poor man's CIWS system which is inferior to the full PLAN version found on the 052C and the 054A.

luckily Chinese military do not think like you, they are open and flexible, thats why they have got PN recent orders, firstly Pakistan does not have a requirment for a 8,000 ton ship not even a 4,000 ton frigate, its for a 3000 ton frigate, infact PN doesnt even have a requirment for Towed array sonar, because of local sea conditions, when PN has a certain requirment the Chinese come up with the best solution to meet the requirment without compromising capability, installing the current configuration of CIWS was the best solution for the size and capability of the ship, Type 052C and Type 054A are big ships for bluewater opps NOT requirment for PN

Karachi Shipbuilding and Engineering Works also last year built 2 tanker/utility ships for Pakistan Navy, they were designed by Singapore Sea Quest technology Pte Ltd, the ships displace 1,650 tons
2 ships are called PNS Magdadgar and PNS Rasadgar numbers 22 and 23
the ship in the background is ex-USS McInerney, now re-named PNS Alamgir
in other news PN has set out
-requirment for 4 new frigates, which includes improvments to machinery and combat systems over current F22P and VLS is now on the agenda
-the requirment for between 6-8 Azmat Class FAC is now set
-hovercraft and support vessals
- and the construction of a 20,000 ton fleet replenishment tanker, which is in collaboration with Chinese shipyards

It's easier to load/reload missile canisters one by one this way. Stealth ships' level of stealth are a lot less than aircrafts. Ships are large, and their radars are designed to look for large things.
