Hi Gatekeeper,

Look at the quality of construction, China had pull all the stops to show our Pakistani Brothers the value of friendship. It also a great marketing tool for Chinese product.

Oh yea. Not only the quality. But everything is within budget and delivered on time.

Now I can't wait to see how that rail project India signed with Japan is progressing.

Nope .... this project is the most controversial project where Sharief brothers ate a big chunk in local tenders/land acquiring etc ....

The 27-kilometre metro to costed 251.06 billion Rupees($1.6 billion), out of which 47.07 billion Rupees($300 million) coming from the Federal Government of Pakistan, the rest is financed through soft loans by the Government of China.

On top of the cost current govt has to give subsidy on tickets in order keep running the project....

What I don't get is why isn't more of it underground? I thought the main cities in Pakistan were already quite dense. Building an elevated section that large seems kind of nonsensical to me.

It wasn't China's fault, the previous PMLN government was inept and corrupt. That's why the army and the people turned against them and the current government came in power to fix their BS.

Ex- Govt designed the layout of this project deliberately in such a way where they can make lot of money in terms of kick backs for example acquiring the land etc etc....

Since inception this project was not recommended by the experts as it don't serve the purpose to the masses in comparison to its cost but Ex-govt pursed with it, which is now become a liability instead of a asset ...

Pakistan needs basic transportation improvements first before these expensive toys.

Better roads, highways, standard gauge rail to every city. High rises, sewage, etc....

As mentioned, this project was deliberately included in CPEC for mentioned reasons....

Several projects are in pipeline such as ML-1 project (8 Billion $) for Railway plus motorways/highways projects are completed and some are under progress.... visit my CPEC thread (though I haven't updated in recent times)....
