China plans electric cars in Pakistan

HEFEI - JAC Motor, a Chinese state-owned automobile and commercial manufacturer based in Anhui province, is planning to introduce electric vehicles particular cars, its Deputy Chief Economic Manager David Zhang said.

Talking to APP, he said, “We are planning to introduce new energy vehicles particularly electric cars in the Pakistani market under a long term development programme in the future.”

Expressing confidence into the current economic situation in Pakistan, he said Pakistan’s economy is now gearing up and there is more improvement in development of infrastructure. He said the management of the company is thinking and aiming at the opportunity to expand its production line in Pakistan.

He pointed out that the cost of the electric cars has also decreased a lot and it has become an economically viable for the middle class, adding, “With more improvement in the economy and fundamental structure ready, we will have an opportunity to take our electric car into Pakistani market.” David Zhang informed that his company is already exporting its products especially the light and mini trucks to Pakistan and it has also set up a factory to manufacture these trucks locally.

“The performance of our products in the local market has been very good and we will expand our lines of production from medium to heavy duty trucks in near future,” he added.

He said both China and Pakistan have friendly relations and are also strategic partners and the businessmen of the two countries have a very good potential to work together. He opined that the Chinese investors could take advantage of good potential and incentives offered by government of Pakistan under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, a flagship project of Belt and Road Initiative.

About the sales outside China, he said his company began the export of vehicles in 1990 to Bolivia and its products have subsequently been sold in over a hundred countries, adding light trucks are a popular exported product.

Some JAC exports are in the form of knock-down kits, which are assembled at overseas factories in countries including Egypt, Ethiopia, Vietnam, Mexico and Iran.

During the current fiscal year 2017-18, sugar exports increased significantly by 300%.

According to figures of Statistics Pakistan (PBS), the sugar exports increased by 300 % during the first ten months of the current fiscal year, with an increase of $ 50 million.

According to the PBS, 1.2 million tons of sugar has been exported during the first ten months of the current financial year. According to the report, sugar production in Pakistan is more than 7.7 million tonnes.

Textile exports increased by 8.1 percent in the current fiscal year 2017-18 in-comparison of LY.

In the corresponding financial year, the exports of the textile sector during the July-April period amounted to $ 11.3 billion while it was $ 10.2 billion LY.

According to figures of Statistics Pakistan (PBS), in the first ten months of the current fiscal year, the growth of nitwears 14.6 % and finished costumes increased by 12 %.

According to the PBS, the exports of knitwear increased to $ 2202 million in comparison with $ 1921 million, while exports of finished costumes increased to $ 2123 million in comparison to US $ 1896 million LY.

KIA Launches the Frontier K2700 Pickup....

Kia has launched the Frontier K2700 commercial loading pickup along with the Grand Carnival MPV in Pakistan, marking their comeback in the country after an absence of nearly a decade.

This time Kia has teamed up with Yunus Brothers Group, which is one of Pakistan’s largest conglomerates. The company has invested $150 million for setting up an automobile assembly plant in Pakistan that will produce a wide range of commercial and passenger vehicles.

The Frontier K2700 pickup comes available with a 2,665 cc diesel engine with 80ps of power at 4,000 rpm and 165Nm of torque at 2,400 rpm, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

The deck length (mm) is 2,810 x 1,630 x 844 with 3-way opening access. The payload is 1,000Kg while the fuel tank capacity is 60 liters. Key features include power steering, power windows, central locking, fog lamps, 3-way opening rear deck, disc brakes, 1 Din Radio, USB+AUX and heater etc.

The Frontier pickup comes in two trims, the standard and XL. The Frontier XL in addition to the standard features come with 6-wheel configuration (14″ front and 12″ dual rear wheels) and a longer loading deck of 3,110 x 1,630 x 733 mm.

Price of the standard version is PKR 19.99 lac whereas the Frontier XL version is priced at PKR 20.49 lac. Kia-Lucky is offering a 4 years/ 100,000 km warranty (whichever occurs first) along with first 2 free services.

The Frontier K2700 will compete against Ghandhara’s JAC X200 and Dewan’s Daehan Shehzore. Interestingly enough the K2700 is another derivative of the Hyundai H100, which Hyundai-Nishat is in process of introducing in Pakistan. Hyundai has already expressed its concerns over the Daehan Shehzore which is again a derivative of the original Hyundai H100.
