"We should get rid of all nukes and might begin with those of NK but that presupposes an end to threats by US and independence for South Korea thus enabling eventual reunification."

I don't think this my quote. It seems to came from delft.o_O

That's really weird!

The real exploiter is the US using these events to panic the world into taking action for something the US is most worried about. It's for the world not the US. It's like how they wanted to contain China when they had a primitive military and every advancement was an excuse to call for containment of China. The fact is this is about the very same thing all the way from the beginning... regime collapse and change in favor of the US. Everything else is just an excuse. North Korea and the US have the same no retreat, no surrender mentality. The only reason why North Korea is targeted is because they're the kid they think they can easily bully. Ironic you have a small country, that they say is the one of the poorest countries, paranoid that everyone is out to get them and you have the most powerful country in the world paranoid that everyone is out to get them. Which one do you think has a more legitimate position to be paranoid?

I was watching Morning Joe this morning and they had Gordon Chang and of course for him it's really about using North Korea to get the US to punish China for his personal grudge. The Western media's go-to so-called expert on China's military who thinks the JF-17 and FC-1 are totally two different aircraft pointed out that launcher for this latest missile was Chinese. Oh is he getting the TEL accusation mixed-up in here because that wasn't a TEL this latest missile was launched from certainly not how missiles get launched from Chinese TELs. Remember how they use to believe China couldn't make a TEL? They were really Russian. That's the problem with the West. They can't separate their wishful thinking from reality. They never thought North Korea could do any of this hence why the unconditional surrender attitude all the time for anyone not Western. Denial at its finest and China is an example where still they don't want to abandon their wishful thinking that is at the center of cause of all this mess. Again Americans see negotiation and compromise as weakness. The US's tactic has proven not to work but it's the only one where the US gets everything they want while no one else gets anything. That's why they stick to it.

It's ironic that Morning Joe is in a personal dispute with Trump. They don't like Trump at Morning Joe but when they put on faux experts like Gordon Chang with his lies, fake news, and alt facts, it's the reason why people vote for Trump.

There's only so much the world could tolerate this US charade. It's already getting old.

Until 2015 the US president was commander in chief of the South Korean armed forces and he is to resume that position in case of war. How independent is that?
In your country Germans always assume command of all armed forces after a week or so during wars. How independent is that?

That happened once and the same German army defeated the combined French and British armed forces in a few weeks. BTW I read a book about the activities of an acquaintance of my mother's during the war and he is cited as saying that in 1947 he stood in the same row of people to be decorated by the then Dutch Queen with general Winkelman, commander in chief of the Dutch army in 1940, the general for fighting five days, he for fighting five years.
You are an idiot.

You don' t like Western/NATO ( remains a bit curious you are a Westerner it is your choice.. ) we know perfectly... but don' t need going for say whatever comparing free countries to bad country ...especialy you THINK the NK dictator can have a good behavior ... don' t neet precised all test missiles are not allowed by United Nations resolutions since very long time !!! right decisions, so all tests/ lauching are completely illegals and in more Dangerous for neighbors with their rustic/rusted missiles can exploded alone...

Butit is not a thread for politic or propaganda... so you stop it or i' ll report

The topic was apparently touched upon when Moon and Trump met recently.

Ministry reaffirms push for early OPCON transfer
2017/07/03 11:46

SEOUL, July 3 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's defense ministry said Monday it is committed to an early takeover of wartime operational control (OPCON) of the country's troops by beefing up its own defense capabilities.

"Basically, our position is to push for the OPCON transition (from the U.S.) at an early date," the ministry's spokesman Moon Sang-gyun said at a press briefing. "(We) will try to strengthen the core capabilities of our military."

He was responding to a summit deal between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and his American counterpart Donald Trump in Washington, D.C. last week.

The two leaders "decided to continue the Alliance's work to expeditiously enable the conditions-based transfer of wartime operational control of ROK (South Korea) forces," read a joint statement.

South Korea will continue to acquire the critical military capabilities necessary to lead the combined defense, it added.

The agreement reflects the liberal South Korean president's campaign pledge.

South Korea was supposed to regain its wartime OPCON at the end of 2015. But the transfer has been postponed indefinitely as the allies agreed to seek the "conditions-based" OPCON transfer, instead of setting a specific deadline, amid growing North Korean military threats.

The ministry official said the two sides evaluate the conditions, apparently meaning the North's firepower and the South's defense capabilities, every year.

And the outcome is reported to the annual Security Consultative Meeting between the defense chiefs of the two sides.

South Korea handed over its OPCON to the U.S.-led U.N. forces shortly after the outbreak of the 1950-53 Korean War.

However, Russia put the range and altitude much lower, suggesting the operational range being 2000km.

The ironic thing here is that for once NK and SK/US are one the same bench (the range) for totally opposing reasons.

One thing to note is that both two set of figures are official (NK state media vs. Russian MoD). And I think US and China know the truth too but both choose to remain silence for opposite reasons.
Now the motivation of Russia's statement is revealed.

Russia objected on Thursday to a United Nations Security Council condemnation of North Korea's latest rocket launch because the U.S.-drafted statement referred to it as an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), diplomats said.

quote from the Reuters article above.
Haley said on Wednesday the United States would propose new U.N. sanctions in coming days and warned that if Russia and China did not support the move, then "we will go our own path." She said Washington was ready to use force "if we must."

"If you are happy with North Korea's actions, veto it. If you want to be a friend to North Korea, veto it," Haley said of her plan to propose new sanctions.
This article was written on July 6th.

However until now July 7th, there is no mention of a meeting on 6th on the UNSC meeting record site here.

The latest meeting was on July 5th (must be NYC time as the UN headquarter) which is about NK missile. So I assume the Reuter was reporting this meeting on 5th.

The press release of this meeting

mention the proposal being put to a vote. The meeting record

(minutes of meeting) leads to "nothing" for unknown reason.

It seems clear that after being warned by Russian objection during the debate, Ms. Haley elected to no to put the proposal to a vote to avoid a double veto.

It would be more interesting to read the meeting record because it logs every word of everybody during the meeting unlike the press release which can omit some detail and nasty realities. I wonder if "THAAD" or "missile defense" would have showed up in the record.
