An academic paper which likely deals with simulating underwater detonations on and around the underside of a DDG's model. It certainly differs to the simulation model mentioned just before, and somewhat resembles the "052D-compact/lite" DDG CGI model seen some time ago (3rd picture).

The stated dimensions of the DDG is as follows:
(Overall) length: 169 meters
(Waterline) length: 164 meters
Beam: 19 meters
Hull depth: 13 meters
Draught: 6 meters
Block coefficient: 0.5

Do note that this may or may not be related to the 052D/DG-successor DDGs that are currently (very likely to be) in WIP, as this model may very well be taken from the archives for simulation purposes.

The CG looks rather dated, depicting Ka-28 helicopter on the launch pad. On the other hand, the overall design is more 055-ish without secondary radar aft. Scaled down version of 055 perhaps?

Yep, likely a preliminary design that was being rejected and then put up for sale/export sometime ago.

So, already with 055 & 052DL, why design a 9k tonnes vessel as next gen DDG? I can't get it. Only I can expect are 20k+ tonnes ships. o_O

In deed if the new design that succeded type 052DL is 9,000 ton class, it would be too close in displacement to type 055 (11,000 standard, 12-13000 full) to be of significance, unless the next improved type 055 variant will have something around 13,000 tons standard and 15,000 tons fully loaded.

Will we see the following in next 10 years?
type 054B (6,000 tons to be confirmed)
type 052(X) (9,000 tons to be confirmed)
type 055(X) (15,000 tons - speculative)

As usual, time will tell. Meanwhile Happy China Miliatry Watching, there are always surprises beyond your anticipation.

Because the 052D/DG's hull (which actually stemmed from the 052's hull in the 1990s) has pretty much been wringed dry by this point.

A larger hull with greater hull volume is needed to load and support the propulsion and power generation systems, radar, sensor and computing systems, fuel storage, living supplies and accommodations of the DDG that are required for naval warfare missions conducted at expeditionary distances from home bases and for extended durations.

Only I can expect are 20k+ tonnes ships. o_O

Have been seeing quite some people here and on Weibo which have some kind of misunderstanding on the 055's costs, and underestimation on how expensive the 055 DDGs are, while being obsessed with surface combatants that are exponentially larger than the current 055s. And they want 20000+ton surface combatants that are produced at the same rate and number as the 055s? Come on.

Also, the successor-class DDGs to the 052D/DGs will take on the role of their predecessors, namely general-purpose DDGs that can be procured in greater numbers for establishing anti-air and anti-missile umbrellas over allied CSGs, SAGs and ESGs on the high seas. They should not be seen in the same breath as the 055s, which are essentially large destroyers (or even cruisers per NATO classification), and will have its own follow-up or even successor class DDGs/CGs in the future.
