See, this is a form of "western" hegemony that is kind of invisible yet potent, certification and standardization regime. China too tries to play this game by Belt and Road Initiative. A lot of people may be even Biden mischaracterized BRI as infrastructure buildings instead of the attempt of building standard and influence.

The Chinese component can just go through the testing and meet the standards they have. They'll allow use unless their governments have immense sway and somehow sabotage the process which is unlikely because it will be transparent.

It's just far easier to get certification from the US while using some of their components. That means the project delivery will be expedited. I really doubt using all Chinese components will necessarily mean the plane cannot be used outside of China as deemed by the US' NTSB and FTA. It will just need to go through the I'm sure slowed down certifying processes. The Americans can drag it to a snail's pace but they can't necessarily say no.

All the paper work and testing will add to time and expenses and you might get rejected on flimsy excuse

Anything that increases China's fragility is a risk to China. Don't misunderstand me, China is very strong now. But if the movement to the cloud increases, if many companies outsource their most critical operations to cloud providers, China is less able to withstand shocks. You would probably like anything that can weaken Mainland China.

Please don't advocate China to abandon modern technology. This mentality should be left back in the Qing dynasty where it belongs. Chinese society needs to become more technological and accelerate its scientific and technological advancement, not abandon it.

Not every idea is worth adopting. Most fads, like outsourcing IT to the cloud, are terrible ideas. Modern technologies like IT will survive just fine without cloud services, thank you very much.

then its the same situation as semi-conductor where chinese company use core tech from EU/Japan/US, and integrate into its own system design. unless it can design and use the core tech from domestic source, it will always rely on core tech from others. then it just always on paper/theory.

China having cloud technology does not increase China's fragility. China not having cloud technology increases its fragility because when its technological enterprises are less efficient, it will fall behind and China will lag the rest of the world in tech, which will degrade its economic and defense capabilities in the long run.

Cloud is not a fad, it is the next step of development. A fad is something that comes and goes, whereas cloud has been steadily growing for 20 years. And the point is not for modern IT to survive, but for China to be on the cutting edge and leap ahead of everyone else. Every technological idea is worth China pursuing and becoming the best at, period.

Not really with time they will increase the domestic portion of C919 as the video clearly said. But initially you will be depending on outsource. It take a while for the engineer to know the in and out of certification. Plus you have to built the core competency. That is why China insist for those component manufacturer to team up with domestic company in the form of joint venture . Over time the technology will be transfer to the joint company. That is why US and the west has problem. But no body force them to enter into the joint venture.

But China has demonstrate their capability in building large plane like Y 20 totally using domestic components. That skill is transferable to civilian air plane
