If I'm forced to make a big Mac then I will. If McDonald's shuts down then I'll make own big mac, I don't do it not because it's hard, but because it's just easier and more convenient to buy it from McDonald's.
Same goes for a lot of other things as well. What's the point of spending time to develop a chip machine when you can buy it?
This Report says that in 2019, 90% of SMICs revenue came from mature process Nodes of 40nm - 250nm.
SMICs 40nm FAB which uses 100% localised manufacturing equipment will be completed at the end of this year.

good day and nice to hear from you again, can you comment about this report? most western reporters and experts usually had no first hand knowledge about what is actually happening inside China tech industry. the sanction on Huawei and SMIC had force the Chinese to be more tight lip than ever, gone are the days of boasting major achievement, Its back to basic again which is good.
This Report basically confirms some research i did which showed that the 14nm FAB business only contributed 2% to SMICs revenue.
I think now that SMIC is a Public Listed company on the Stock Exchange in Shanghai means that it will have to provide figures to investors. This means even foreigners are getting to know more about SMIC.
I find that there is a lot of fake news in Western Media regarding SMIC. There are claims that with sanctions, SMIC will collapse, be strangled, be seriously damaged etc. This really reflects the personal wishes of the low IQ reporter.
In reality SMIC will become stronger and independent with its newly built FABs and once the 28nm FAB is built, it is just a small upgrade in order to move to 14nm Chips.
China will surprise a lot of ppl just like it did with first manned mission in 2003, then one after another the subsequent years! But it seriously began early 1990s when prez Jiang ordered the space program to aim for a manned mission.. China's semicon industries have been around for many years but now a sudden push and boost, first "manned-mission" in 2021!! Expect more in 22,23,24..
