China achieves record 800-km/h maglev test speed

2025-12-26 19:20:00
WUHAN, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- Central China's Hubei East Lake Laboratory on Friday announced a groundbreaking achievement in high-speed maglev technology, with its test line accelerating a 1.1-tonne model train to 800 kilometers per hour in just 5.3 seconds -- a milestone in electromagnetic propulsion research.
The test covered a 1,000-meter track, with the train reaching peak speed at some 600 meters and stopping steadily at its endpoint after an eight-second journey.
The feat was enabled by a "permanent magnet electric suspension guidance plus electromagnetic propulsion" system, which overcame challenges like high-speed aerodynamic stability, low-latency wireless communication and the precision control of linear motors, according to the laboratory.
This is the laboratory's third world record in six months, following demonstrations of 650 kilometers per hour on June 16 and 700 kilometers per hour on July 14.
It said that the 1,000-meter test line will operate as an open platform supporting R&D in next-generation maglev transit, aerospace electromagnetic launches and low-altitude-economy projects, offering support for cutting-edge transportation technologies. ■

openGauss joins hands with 13 organizations to establish a supernode database industry-academia-research alliance.

The openGauss community, together with 13 industry, academic, and research institutions including telecom operators, database companies, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and top universities, jointly established the "Supernode Database Industry-Academia-Research Alliance." This alliance aims to promote breakthroughs and innovations in database technology under the supernode architecture and accelerate the transformation and application of related research results. On the same day, the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences, announced its membership in the openGauss community council, further deepening industry-academia-research cooperation.

As a core force in China's open-source database field, the openGauss community has gathered over 880 industry chain partners and more than 8,400 global developers since its inception, with the community version exceeding 5.5 million downloads worldwide. Its technological achievements have been commercially deployed on a large scale in key industries such as finance, government, and telecommunications. It holds a 35.02% market share in China's offline centralized relational database market, and the commercial version based on openGauss accounts for 29.4%, ranking first in the open-source database market for two consecutive years.

The establishment of the "Supernode Database Industry-University-Research Alliance" marks a new stage for openGauss in collaborative technological innovation and industrial ecosystem construction. Alliance members will collaborate on key areas such as database performance optimization and distributed computing capability enhancement within the supernode architecture, and will also promote the development of technical standards and the improvement of talent training systems. The participation of the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences, injects dual momentum into the alliance through basic theoretical research and cutting-edge technology exploration, which is expected to accelerate the transformation of research results into industrial applications.

From its development history, since its open-source release in 2019, the openGauss community has rapidly built a complete ecosystem covering chips, complete machines, operating systems, middleware, and industry applications through an open and collaborative model. Its commercial version has served over 200 industry clients, demonstrating its high concurrency and high reliability in scenarios such as government cloud, core banking systems, and telecom operator billing platforms. The establishment of this alliance and the expansion of its council further solidify its leading position in the field of domestic databases, providing crucial support for the independent controllability of critical information infrastructure.

The built quality of the Chinese brand trumps. But it's a bit more expensive. A very good sign, nonetheless.
There is another Chinese coffee machine manufacturer which is far more advanced and reliable.

Suzhou based CAYE Technology is the first company in China to specialize in fully automatic coffee machines built on a fully self-developed high-efficiency brewing system. By the end of 2024, nearly 200 patents have been filed, of which invention patents account for over 40%. with an annual capacity of over 10,000 units. It has an external cooperative factory in Kunshan with a reserved capacity of up to 100,000 units..

A good coffee machine must maintain a hot temperature for a sufficient duration during the brewing process. That's what sets apart good and bad machines. The quality and durability of the gaskets will determine whether it receives one or five stars. I often wonder whether the manufacturers bother to look at the reviews and react with improvements accordingly.
