China's global TV shipment overtook South Korea's for the first time in Q4 2024.

The amount of performance that you get with Chinese TVs at that low price is literally unbeatable. Samsung and LG and Sony TVs cost thousands more with only small improvements. This news is not surprising at all. Consumers always want the best bang for their buck.

Especially since we are getting squeezed by inflation. Thanks Powell.

Some other sides of the rapid science development in China:

On the positive side, China has invested twice the US in next gen chip research. I'm deeply curious where this goes.

China to publish policy to boost RISC-V chip use nationwide

That Reuters article mentioned a couple of times that RISC-V chips were "less powerful" than other chips. This doesn't sound right, as I understand it, RISC-V just has far fewer machine code instructions and so some chip designs can be optimised to do certain tasks even better.

Edit: Like comparing Windows XP to Windows 11.

, has left Princeton University for a position at Peking University in Beijing.

Last month, Liu joined the Institute of Heavy Ion Physics at Peking University’s School of Physics as an assistant professor, according to a post on his new department’s social media account.

Liu’s research has centred mainly on plasma physics and nuclear fusion. In particular, he has focused on solving problems related to the physics of runaway electrons – a kind of energy leakage – and other energetic particles in magnetic confinement fusion devices.
