Haha, I only paid attention to Chinese TV brands in the last 2 years when I was looking to buy a new TV. I wonder when did Chinese brands start to rival the performance of established brands like Samsung and LG? I'm guessing only in the last 5 years or so. Chinese tech is moving sooo fast lol. What's even more incredible is the price. You can get mindblowing performance for only half the price of Japanese and Korean brands. Wonder if the Chinese government subsidizes TV makers like they do for EV makers.
They really caught up in the last year or so in the western market. The last generation of TCL and Hisense were competitive with the latest LG/Samsung/Sony offerings, but this year's crop surpasses them. They always had them best in price of course, but the top of the line model was always just a tad short in performance.

I'm looking to upgrade my TV, but I really want TCL/Hisense's very top of the line model, like the Hisense UX series. They seem to only have limited availability in the US. Last year I think Hisense only released like 100 or something of the UX series, for example.

I currently have a mid-range Samsung 82 inch TV from 6 years ago. I use it as my main computer monitor as well (I don't do much work on the computer, so all from my couch), and back then it was the only 4K 60Hz option within reasonable price range thats 80+ inches. It had pretty middling picture quality even back then, but I chose it more for its ability to function as a monitor. Now I'm looking at TCL/Hisense models with 4K 120hz capabilities which also have excellent picture quality, and even at my desired sizes of 85-98 inches they're still affordable.

While this is good and all, isn't this one of those industries where it's mainly a single company (Samsung for QLED, Canon for OLED?) making the core component (the panel) and then the different brands do the lower end stuff?

Most OLED panels are made by LG. The OLED TVs from Samsung and Sony all use LG panels. But for Chinese makers, the miniLED panels are homegrown. Hisense makes most of the components in its TVs. Same with TCL. So you can be safe in being proud of the fact that these made in China TVs equal or even surpass the performance of Japanese and Korean brands.

dingyibvs yes definitely look into TCL/Hisense. 80inches from Japanese and Korean brands are VERY expensive.

Most of the leading OLED and QLED manufacturers are Chinese and Korean. The major Chinese manufacturers are BOE, CSOT, Tianma, and Visionox and the major Korean manufacturers are Samsung and LG.

As far as I know, the panels sold by Chinese companies are manufactured by Chinese companies. CSOT actually supplies panels to Samsung

Right, I was thinking of upgrading to the the 98-100 inch class and found that Samsung TVs from that class were actually supplied by TCL.

That looks pretty sweet! I wish Hisense brought their top offerings to the US, like the bigger U8Ns and their UX series. I'm personally eyeing the TCL QM851G, probably wait for the price drop later in the year. If my wife allows I'll upgrade to the 98 inch version for hopefully ~$5k (MSRP $8K right now). If not then I'll probably do the 85 inch version lol. I need the size to read texts easily as I use it as a monitor too in the living room. 5K dimming zones and 5K peak brightness is just ridiculous. I won't need another upgrade until microled TV's become mainstream.
