the turrent is mounted in the test rig to evaluate and test the tank gun stabilzation system.
majority of the tank produced in the 50's and 60's use 2 axis gun stabilzation.
not until in the mid-70's with the arrival M-60A3 which uses 3-axis systemto compliment hughes digital integrated FCS,the first tank ever to fitted with thermal sight.

interest about the turrent, it seem to me,it adapted all wield turrent,rather than "hybrid" construction, half casting,half wielding like type-98 /99.
since,both the russian T-55M6 and ukraine T-55AGM uses bustle mounted auto loader,it is likely type-99/2 may also adapt similiar design.

T-99 has lower Silhouette than peer MBT like M1A2 and Leopard II

It's has better surveilance and search radar than other MBT. Enable it to have a first strike, first see advantage.

125mm rounds are bigger, enable it to carry more gunpowder. Meaning it is superior than 120mm rounds

Its modular design enable easy future ugrade.

It has full auto search and destroy ability. Good gun stability system ensuring high first hit probability.

It's lazer dazzler enable to distract/disable opponent search system.

It good weight to engine power ratio is superior to peer opponent tank.

This interview sorts out some of the misleading things that have been written about the ZTZ-99.

The designer confirms a fully automatic target tracking and aiming system. The target tracker also controls the laser dazzler to blind the target tank to suppress return fire.

The 125mm gun is described as radically different from the 125mm imported from Russia, with changes to all major components. The designer claims its power is superior to contemporary 120mm guns.

The designer describes the working mechanism of reactive armor and an intercepting active defense system.

The designer claims the ZTZ-99 is superior to the M1A2 in firepower and protection, matches in mobility with a smaller logistical requirement, and has newer technology and earlier adoption of new technology.

The low silhouette prevents adequate depression of the main gun to operate the tank in difilade, and prevents adequate elevation. This is part of what caused the T-80 to suffer such high losses in Grozny.

The caliber of the gun is no guarantee of having more energy or penetrating ability. The quality of the energetics has a major impact on muzzle velocity, as the US Army is able to achieve higher muzzle velocities on their 120 mm round than other users are with the same gun, or even the longer caliber guns the Germans are adopting. There is considerable trade space between muzzle velocity and acceptable barrel wear.

The auto loader is still the big handicap of these guns, slowing the firing rate and restricting turret movement and gun elevation while the loading process in underway.

Radar on a tank???

That is the designer comment. He claimed he has visited a certain number of peer opponent tank and concluded 125mm smoothbore gun has high velocity muzzle spped and bigger superior rounds. Chinese 125mm gun is re engineer differently from Russian 125mm smoothbore gun.

Auto loader eliminate the loader crew ensuring the weight of a well protected tank tone down. American M1A2 weight a whooping 72 tons as it need a bigger well protected turret to accomodate 4 crews inside compare to autoloader of 3 crews. Huge weight causes massive complication in logistic and mobilities on different terrain.

He claimed the Tank able to go on auto mode which it will search and fire by itself in this mode. But what I think the most secreties of Type99 tank is the lazer dazzle. He claim it like a magic charm but he did not reveal much.
