Tungsten is toxic to humans. And the question of strength is one of what kind. Since we are talking about ballistic vests it has to be a compromise between protection and mobility. To heavy and the wearer cant move to light and it will not protect.
Tungsten and Depleted uranium are high density metals, both are toxic to humans unless encapsulated which would add more weight. They are fine as tank armor or tank penetrators but there qualities would not suit a person armor system.
Boron carbide is as hard as diamond on impact from a high velocity round It fractures dissipating the energy over a wider surface and breaking up the round.

(which is also why they never parade prototype kit, only operationally deployed gear).

That's why I do not think the J20 will be making a surprise appearance sadly.
What about the type 98s and DF-31 during the 1999 parade? The type 98 was a prototype of ZTZ-99, while the DF-31 did not enter deployment until mid. 2000s.

Yes it normally is used in a alloy form. However we come back to role if body armor tungsten carbide is very dense a plate of it will not be light weight. Tungsten is also rare. Making it more expensive.

More high-resolution photos of the 99A2. The more I look at it, the more it grows on me.
