The wiring going from the ID device to wards the gunners sights. And if it is a id device I don't see why can you intergrate it to the gunner sights or the commonder's sight why put it right on top of the gun, I suspect it has other purposes.
Given the possible scenarios type 99 will be fighting in would it not make a lot of sense to cover up all these exposed areas? These devices looks vulnerable to shrapnel.
Have you ever had a laptop break on you? That's the problem with interpreting everything. If one component breaks, the entire system needs to be pulled apart and repaired if not replaced.
Wanting to put that IFF device within the commander's or gunner's sights would also place size limitations on the device, and potentially the size of the sights as well, which in turn could force you to make unnecessary performance sacrifices.
With that IFF device integrated into one of the sights would also make upgrading it much harder and more expensive.
I also do not see how putting that IFF with one of the sights would make it any more protected than it already is. Those sights only have very think armour around them. Shrapnel or direct enemy fire could disable or destroy either the commander or gunner's sights easily enough. That's one of the reasons why tankers loath city fights, and why tanks should always be well protected by friendly infantry in urban combat.
In reality, most of your complaints are about cosmetics rather than core capability issues.
