From the paint scheme, its likely target customer is middle east or North Africa.

Is it possible this new export tank is trying to win back the Peru deal? PLA block some of the tank technology for export that time which causes the deal to collapse.

No, PLA was at odds over power pac system technologies with Ukriane, thus the Ukrainians intervened in the deal. PLA was more than happy to give Peru a fully capable vehicle loaded with the latest technology.

Venezuela, Algeria are under Russian influence inregards to weapons systems, Thailand remains to be seen if they would go with Chinese or ROK manufactured MBTs.

Thailand opted for Ukranian Oplot (spotting a pattern here, everyone?) - RoK dropped out of the running yoinks ago because their offer gave the Thais sticker shock.

VT-1A is low cost version of Type-99,same gun,same FCS.same electronic.
according to the chinese website VT-1A is compatible to russia T-80,ironic, more than 200 plus T-80BV were destroyed in chenchya. russia quickly replace all there T-80 tank with T-55 tank.in Chenchya.
