Hello, I am Santamaria. I am a Spanish engineer, my experience has been in aerospace, automotive and now semiconductor industry.
I have lived in Spain, Norway, Germany and currently Switzerland.
My main interest is the debate of the many misconceptions my fellow westerners have about the broad world, read people from China, US, Russia and other non European countries to has more “personal” data about the state of each economy and also share my own experiences and views.

Thank you for the welcome! Yes, it is good to remember that even if we have different cultures we all humans. In many ways we are alone in an immense cosmos that I hope our seed will conquer.

So I have a story that always seems to amuse Spanish speakers (although being in Canada, that is like Mexicans, Cubans, and Central/South American origin)

My classmate, an ethnic Chinese guy is speaking on the phone. He is saying "Si, Si Si... ok bye"
So I ask him "Si? Are you speaking Spanish?"
And he is like "Yeah, I'm talking to my mom"
Me: "You speak Spanish at home?"
Him "Yes, why do you think my name is Emilio? I was born in Panama!"
Me: "Never would have guessed, lol"

Hahaha is amazing!!

I had some Chinese classmates in Spain, they were speaking very good Spanish, with no accent.
One of them has a Taiwanese mother and a the father from Shanghai and I remember asking the mother about Taiwan and China and so on.
She was very very strongly “unionist”. She always tell me: like in Spain you have different regions like Madrid, Sevilla, Barcelona we have Shanghai, Pekín, Taiwan…
But we are all China.

Pardon newbies because it’s probably too late by the time you read this but if you haven’t created an ID yet, please pick something unique especially from involving a bunch of numbers. There are too many members in here with similar handles and it gets a little confusing especially if you don’t want to be mistaken for someone who’s notorious for being a troll.

Hello! I'm new to the forum - from Kathmandu, Nepal.
Main interests would be, mainly SCS, Taiwan, indo-sino relations and the Chinese economy (incl. semi-conductor, space efforts etc). Passing interests in Airforce, Naval hardware and missile/drone tech.
There's always been western (and increasingly Indian - but what's the difference?) hogwash around China, so I'm mostly here to learn rather than post about these topics and try to glean a hopefully more complete perspective towards our great neighbor state.
I've also been learning Chinese for just over a year now, because without an understanding of something so fundamental one cannot have an impartial look into the people.
