Tesla was a catalyst in the Chinese market to kick start EV supply chains at scale, triggering deeper investments by Chinese EV companies and wannabes. Just like Apple was a catalyst for kick starting smart phone supply chains at scale, leading to Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, etc. being the juggernauts they are today in the Chinese smart phone market.
Right, so just the good old market competition.....

I wanna ask about the Xiaomi SU7.

So, old news, but remember the highway accident months ago that involved the SU7?

I wanna know the context and clues of what we know about that accident.

Was the SU7's autopilot malfunctioning? Or was it just dumb kids speeding, leading to their demise?
Combination of both.

Dumb kids that put way too much trust into their autopilot, but xiaomi's autopilot also kind of sucks especially compared to huawei.

Xiaomi YU7 is probably one of the most important EV launches of the year. It will be a strong competitor of Tesla Model Y and may well replace it as one of the best selling electric SUV in China.

Seems xiaomi has the best brand value among Chinese car EV makers. They sure worked veey well on their marketing and branding. Seems to have paid off very well. I wont be surprised if they become the most sucessful ev company in China (along with BYD) this coming years/decade if they carry on like this.
The most surprising thing is unlike most chibese EV companies who bring out new brands every six month, Xiaomi has a longer time period of launching a new models just once a year. I think this also creates some sort exclusivity mindset and makes the brand/models more valuable in the eyes if the consumer. They are doing so well, despite not being the top player in terms of product value in china (their software lags behind the likes of huawei for example) yet they are doing better , shows the importance of branding and good marketing i guess. . Will be interesting to see how things play out in future. Guess they will soon need a 3rd factory at this rate. Lol

Third Xiaomi EV factory in Beijing is already underway: 485,100 square meters, just next to the second factory. 1751090611625.png

The first factory was built by Xiaomi or it was bought from someone else? Because I remember I read sth that BAIC or someone else was making cars for Xiaomi at beginning but I might be wrong.

Yeah, i remember reading since the middle of last year that they took full control of building their own cars frim BAIC.

This also shows Xiaomi's is really commitment to vertical integration and serious about being a sucessful high value EV company. Afterall, it wont be a good image to keep having their cars built by a declining inefficient state owned car company like BAIC who will probably dissapear in a few years at the rate the chinese car market is quickly moving forward. So it's smart they started building their own cars themselves.

Just an assembly factory, Xiaomi just came to the automobile industry, doesn't expect it to have too much independent vertical integration supply chain.

All factories are newly built for Xiaomi ev only, and BAIC never bulit any car for Xiaomi. Xiaomi used BAIC's production license for su7, and badged "Beijing Xiaomi", until its own license got approved, and badging "Xiaomi" only.
