Because that's how you get BYD. You need to subsidize many failed companies to produce a highly competitive one. It looks wasteful when the companies are failing, but the real waste was at the beginning when everyone was just starting. Of course, how do you know that BYD was going to be the eventual winner? You don't. So you fund everyone, and let time give you the answer. Then you

and let the rest fail.

This is industrial policy 101.
We are talking about buying car which is a big investment for ordinary people. Who is gonna trust Chinese car if people see that most of the chinese auto are going bankrupt and they will never be able to get parts

What a utter waste of resources with all these new companies making new EV, ultimately going bankrupt, and leaving their customers with no where to do get parts, do repairs in the future and leaving a bad taste in their mouth.

its just a mess with all these parallel R&D going on simultaneously to make exactly same kind of product but just a slightly different exterior design while all of the EV companies selling products for loss.

why can’t these new investor just buy shares in existing big successful company instead of making their own product line? Why does Huawei and Xiaomi need to make a new car. Why can’t they focus on their own strenth and make software and gadzet for EV ecosystem.
Xiaomi and Huawei don't have their own car factories, they collaboate with existing car makers. They designed the cars and let their car maker partner build them. It is quick similar to how Iphones are made by their partner in China, and what Huawei used to let TSMC manufactured Huawei designed Kirin chips before the US ban.

A company that relies on all Western technologies and loves to copy Apple’s designs. All fluffs and little substances.
Yes, which is why I think they bring something new to the auto industry.

They are the best at marketing and fluff and if other car companies see them being successful, it will force them to invest in better marketing. It's a very good thing if Chinese companies want to be successful globally and rise in the value chain.

Xiaomi actually does. They built their own factory in Beijing with 150k capacity + another 150k in phase 2 coming soon

As far as I know Huawei has their own drive train that is excellent among industry standard. It would be unfair to say they dont participate in the industrial section.

Huawei does not own its own factory, but Xiaomi do have a factory located in Beijing.

But remember when Western and Japanese cars also went bankrupt in China? Mitsubishi withdrew from China, and Acura, Suzuki, Fiat, Renault, and Jeep also withdrew from China. Owners of these cars in China also face difficulties finding the parts and services they need.

Just look at the numbers. Chinese consumers are buying more and more Chinese-brand cars, especially EVs. Of course, some companies may go bankrupt, but the trend is clear. Chinese cars are on the rise, and some of them will become mainstream brands in the future, just like BYD.

@tphuang can provide much better answer. My guess is the auto supply chain is deep and wide. Xiaomi is a system integrator.
i took a look at their supply chain and it isn't more foreign dependent than say XPeng.
I like Xiaomi's entrance here. They bring something new, that is auto & home integration, they bring that to a new level.

in many ways, it's a good thing, because it increases the pool of NEV buyers. many people previously only buying ICE cars are now interested in the new xiaomi car. That's what you want, fewer ICE and foreign cars
