the number 1 critic of Chinese auto industry is Stellantis head Carlos Tavares. So if you need to blame any French linkage, you should blame Stellantis head.

funnily enough, Stellantis is likely to invest in leapmotor soon.

While Hyundai and Kia have suffered sagging sales in China for more than five years, the first seven months of 2023 were the worst in at least 15 years, according to China Automotive Technology and Research Center. Including Kia, the world’s third-largest automaker now commands less than 2% of the Chinese market, down from about 10% during its heyday in 2009.

this byd/Weichai tie up is pretty big and I'm going to look more into it later, but it allows byd to get into jv with weichai for battery electric and hybrid commercial platforms

also mentioned in there which I missed is the link to 山东重工 and its subsidiary 中国重汽 (sinotruk) who is one of the largest providers of heavy trucks in china. Weichai itself also does HDT, but it's more of an engine provider
