BYD entering Korean EV trucking market. It's kind of interesting to see that they've slow played the Korean PV market thus far. I do expect them to enter at some point. I guess it just hasn't been seen as that important of a market so far. Koreans are likely very patriotic in their car preferences.

BYD bringing 3 models to Uzbekistan. From what I can see, this is the first official release. There has already been sales of cars to Central Asia from third party dealers.

Song+ DM-i should be very popular in Central Asia

Just look at how BYD is talked about in Uzbekistan

Tashkent hosted a presentation of DM-i hybrid models and electric vehicles from the world leader BYD. Every tenth car sold in the world in 2022 is an electric car, and they are produced only in the most advanced countries.
Now the best-selling NEV cars will be presented in our country, thanks to which the automotive industry of Uzbekistan is on the verge of a new round of technological development, which will allow Uzbekistan to break out at least 10 years ahead.
At a time when the whole world is looking at innovative solutions, Uzbekistan is confidently on its way to joining a number of countries mastering the most advanced technologies. With care for our future generations, UzAuto is on the threshold of a new era - the era of the development of a new type of transport in Uzbekistan, where we, in cooperation with BYD, have every chance of becoming the 1st country in the CIS and the 14th country in the world producing cars on a new type of energy .

Lula is visiting China at end of this month. Will be interesting to see a deal get signed or something

BYD already has a large operation in Brazil with a bus plant

Apparently, just signed a deal with Azul Airlines to provide road transports between airports. BYD's D9F buses are 12m long and able to transport 46 passengers. They have 300 km range.

Their bus factory can produce 2000 buses a year, but is currently just in the process of 100 of them for deliver in early 2023.

1500 BYD buses are in services in Colombia and Chile. Both large markets for BYD. just 93 buses in Brazil though. With a leftist leader in charge, there should be more incentive for green transportation going forward.

Pricing in Uzbekistan
Song+ DM-i
220 to 266.7K RMB

Han EV
371 to 393k RMB

Frigate 5
171 to 208K RMB

So they are making more money on exports even to a nearby market like Uzbekistan

BYD getting into PV market in Myanmar. It has already delivered 40 E2s to Myanmar for Taxis I think and more will arrive in March and later. Myanmar to allow import of 3000 BEVs for buses & taxis initially.

BYD also bringing LHD version of Dolphin for international market, looks like testing is almost done

Just need to hear news about Indonesia and Vietnam now. They got pretty much everywhere else covered in ASEAN countries. This is what you want if you are China. For your auto company to be considered desirable, modern & high class. This changes one's view of China from cheap manufacturer to high end/tech country.

General Motors is losing ground in China
With all due respect to Americans here, but generally speaking the reputation of US cars have been poor across most of the world. In Europe, it's only really Tesla that is competitive and that will probably change a few years from now as other OEMs catch up.

So China was the outlier for a long time and it frankly puzzled me. But it seems that even that honeymoon is coming to an end.

Big news: Yadea (the world's largest 2-wheeler EV OEM) has partnered with another Chinese firm to produce the world's first sodium-battery powered 2-wheeler.

We mostly focus on cars here, but it's important to remember that 2-wheelers are still a very big market for middle-income and lower-income countries. The EV transition for them is just as important.

It’s because US automakers make the same quality cars in China as the ones they sell at home/export to advanced economies. The Japanese/Koreans tend to make low quality cars specifically for the Chinese market.
