looks like BYD received 3.6B RMB in subsidies from 2020 to 2022. Tesla came in second at 1.24B RMB

The price war in March has really accelerated. legacy JV discounts are just off the charts. A lot of this is like a end of Q1 sales maneuver to offload excessive inventory

More BYD news. Workers are getting recalled from vacation. Expect higher production. I think in Jan/Feb, production was a little lower due to covid, then CNY and then some production changes to produce new models and move capacity around. Expect March/April production to be significantly higher.

Wonder if this is a Germany-specific thing. Perhaps the Sinophobia is starting to affect buying patterns. You don't see this in Israel, so I don't think it has to do with high-income countries being more discerning.
Well, Germany has a strong domestic car industry. Does Israel? I'd imagine a lot of people in Germany have relatives or friends that works with automotive manufacturing and servicing.

I wonder what the central government is going to do about BYD's meteoric rise

Wuhan, Wuhu and Changchun's economy are gonna be hit hard if Dongfeng, Chery, FAW can't find a solution

Dongfeng especially, since their own brands are the weakest and its largest JV partner Nissan is one of the hardest hit by BYD's attack.

In an ideal world we'd see Dongfeng using their pretty decent hybrid tech to quickly create a new PHEV/BEV lineup like BYD's dynasty series

But so far nothing seems to be going on other than Hubei government giving one off subsidies, which is just a stupid bandaid solution. I'm afraid Wuhan might be turning into the Detroit of China
