I think this is my regret about the brave new world of electrification. As manufacturers switch their R&D funds to electric vehicles, there will increasingly be prospective ICE developments "left on the table" as simply uneconomic to pursue. The internal combustion engine has come a long, long way over the last century, and one wonders what next several decades could've brought if not for the EV revolution.

The analogy that springs to mind is how the significant innovation of

lamps was rapidly outshone by the march of electrified lighting.
ICE won't be left out. Commercial vehicles will still need ICE and rural vehicles will likely be plug in hybrids for the combination of 0 emissions city driving and long range with gas. BYD itself is still heavily invested in combustion engines.

what do you mean? CATL wants to be part of this JV so its competitors don't get a large order and compete against it? Do you want Japanese and Korean battery makers to take all of the US market?
It is very difficult to safeguard your trade secrets with such arrangement. Basically, CATL is giving Ford unfettered access to its battery technology. The only benefit is denying your competitors from obtaining more marketshare from you. As the leading batteries maker in the world, CATL needs to think in the long term.

2023 version of BYD Qin+ DM-i on the market now. Pricing lowered to compete with ICE cars directly.
I feel like Qin+ right now is just an uncompetitive model.

Also in Israel, Atto 3 has now landed in the top spot for 3 months in a row.
The Qin plus launched this time should be seen in the context of the Chinese auto market. Qin plus’s opponents are the Japanese Big Three and Volkswagen’s 100,000 to 150,000 cars. The market that eats up a lot of oil trucks!

if CATL cannot stay ahead of Ford in battery technology, it doesn't deserve to stick around.
