Chinese firms now have a whopping 40% of global EV market share. In fact closer to 42% since Volvo belongs to Geely.

Also seems to confirm that outside of Tesla, the US has nobody. Germany will probably be the most serious competitor to China as far as I can see. Tesla is impressive but it isn't as far ahead as it used to be and the Americans have nobody else. SK does pretty well.

The major underperformers: Japan, France, Italy, Spain...
China's market share in EVs went from 22% to 40% in one year.

Even non-Chinese EVs like Tesla, VW will heavily utilize Chinese parts, particularly batteries.

Going forward, China alone will dominate EVs harder than Japan+Germany dominated ICE.

More news on BYD.
Song DM-i has started sales in Brazil. The price is 269,990 BRL -> $51K. yeah, that's a lot of money for DM-i. More than twice what BYD sells it for in China. But Brazil is a high cost country, so this probably will still be among the cheap NEV in Brazil. The first 200 will start delivery in December.

The first Yuan+ started delivery in Israel.

BYD factory in Thailand with start off producing BEVs and then later also produce PHEV. The first Atto 3 will land in Thailand on Oct 10th.

The first BYD ET3 have arrived in Mexico.

By Aug 27th, Dolphin arrived in Phillipines and already got almost 100 orders on the first day.

Interesting stuff here
I think this first tweet is describing Seal. I'm surprised that people are picking the standard range one over the long range one. Not a surprise that it's getting compared to Tesla, Xpeng and Chang'An here. Probably it's biggest competition is actually Han. This is why Model 3 and XPeng cars are in trouble. ET5 is selling hot because it's probably considered higher end.

But if you look at the buyers, that's the kind of stuff that's disastrous for Germans. Younger people in China now favor domestic brands. It's the older folks that still want to buy foreign cars. Also, looks like Seal, Dolphin and Song are the 3 most popular models they have.

This could be a game changer in the lower end market

Honestly, L2 EV for just 100k RMB? How do you beat that. And I'm sure DJI technology on autonomous driving will be really good.

Yeah, this is embarrassing for Tesla. Cars in stock and need to package insurance. Musk got used to sitting on his butt and just figuring out how to get higher margins rather than actually developing more compelling products. If Model Y can't get premium in China anymore, what's the next plan?

the global landscape of intelligent vehicles is not settled yet. The time window for China is about three years, or five years at most. If we fully understand the importance here and put in three years of efforts to build an independent OS, an open-source and preferably free system controlled by us, China will form its own industrial ecosystem.
building OS is more urgent than making chips for the automobile supply chain.
Chinese car companies are fully aware of the serious impact of chip shortage on development, but few realize that the lack of OS will be fatal too.
we should not seek 100 percent independence, as it is unscientific, uneconomical, and impossible. We must step up in opening up to the outside world, and welcome foreign OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer), chip companies, and software companies to invest in China.

I feel like this is the 3rd time I'm responding to this particular comment. Each time on a different spread. There is no issue with Chinese EVs and OS. Any Chinese automaker that can't develop an OS for themselves deserve to perish. Let the fast moving fish kill the slow moving fish.

BYD in fact is seeking to be 100% independent. So, it is incorrect to say that
we should not seek 100 percent independence, as it is unscientific, uneconomical, and impossible
That old man need to shut up and see what's actually happening out there rather than keep listening to what SAIC, FAW and Huawei are telling him.

BYD will start to use blade batteries in commercial vehicles, both in buses and heavy trucks.

CATL has developed the module-to-bracket (MTB) battery pack for heavy trucks, which is similar to the cell-to-pack (CTP) technology for passenger vehicles, which integrates the battery pack with the chassis of the car. Notice that the MTB batteries are swappable.

CATL unveils module to bracket battery technology for heavy trucks

The MTB technology integrates the battery module directly into the vehicle's bracket or chassis, allowing for a 40 percent increase in battery system utilization and a 10 percent weight reduction.

Talking about EV battery swapping, this technology probably will not go away anytime soon.

Huawei/Seres' 3rd factory will be completed in July next year with an annual capacity of 700,000 units. The picture below shows Huawei/Seres Aito M5.

Huawei is really into NEV now. It will form a premium brand with Chery and launch 5 models. Two of these probably will be released next year. Huawei/Chery is Huawei's third NEV joint venture. The other two are Huawei/Changan/CALT and Huawei/Seres. Huawei/Seres' Aito M5 uses Huawei's HarmonyOS vehicle operating system (see above).

BYD is the leading brand in 7 of the 9 segments in August wholesales.

I think Zeekr dealers have already sold out their 2022 allowances and new orders will not be delivered until next year. Below is Zeekr 001.

Zeekr 001 review: Probably the best overall EV package under $45K in China

The base model of the Zeekr 001 might not lead in any one category, but as a package, for its price, it's bloody hard to beat.

"Hyperloop" will never be built ever. It has been a decade, yet Elon Musk is still lying about it.

a couple of articles on BYD commercial vehicle efforts.

I saw this type of bus being offered a while back, but it's good to see they have finally started delivering them. This is a huge market that probably have not that much EV competition at the moment. BYD doesn't need to enter PV market in America to have a large presence.

Also, they are showcasing all their commercial vehicles in Hanover, Germany. I don't know if they have been as successful with trucks in continental Europe
