Whats all the fuss on EU tariff. The retaliation can be on their agricultural products, where farmers get larger voter base. They will be in world of pain and they have no control where the pain will go. All these "EU is not as concerned of auto tariff back" is missing forest for trees.

"China’s Xiaomi delivers 20,000 EVs in October, just months after launching its first car

China’s Xiaomi said Tuesday that it had delivered more than 20,000 SU7 EVs in October as it ramps up production for its electric car venture in a fiercely competitive market.
Xiaomi on Tuesday also announced it was taking preorders for the high-end sports version, SU7 Ultra, starting at 814,900 yuan ($114,304), ahead of the product release in March 2025.
Citi analysts raised their forecast for Xiaomi car deliveries to 250,000 vehicles next year, up from 238,000 previously expected"

This is a significant move, as it targets purely those EU countries that are intent on punishing China‘s EV sector. 10 EU countries (France, Poland, Italy, Netherlands, Ireland, Bulgaria, Denmark and the 3 Baltic states) will see zero Chinese investments in the EV and battery sectors and lose billions of direct investments and thousands of jobs.

The 5 countries that voted against, (Germany, Malta, Slovenia, Slovakia and Hungary) will be rewarded with huge investments, including transfer of some technologies which the Europeans so lack in EVs and batteries. Not sure about how China will treat the remaining 12 countries that abstained (inc. Spain, Belgium, Croatia, Czech, Austria, Romania, Sweden, Portugal, Finland, Greece, Cyprus and Luxembourg) though.

A very clinical Sun Tzu move from China to target enemies within the crowd.

EU released the names of the traitors
Not surprised by SAIC btw, they already tried some funny business in India and are getting investigated.
But SAIC is state owned by the Chinese government, So dont understandhow that happened. Anyway, its an inefficient car company. Private innovative and dynamic Chinese auto companies will put them out of business soon.

No, it’s not just a value added for European funds. Half of the profit from these JVs go to Europe and the other half get wasted in useless uncompetitive firms like SAIC.

Jobs are jobs don't work in the present day Chinese economy. China no longer has massive number of non-college educated workers that it needs to find employment. It has a whole bunch of college educated STEM grads that need to find research jobs and higher end technical jobs.

Our goal here is to not care about EU's perspective. Of course, EU doesn't want its national champions to lose. Who would want that. But the idea that having BYD beating SAIC & FAW JVs is not good a thing is ludicrous.

You can't escape the trappings of middle income economy without taking over higher value added design jobs.
Agree completely. Seriously these Chinese state owned car companies have been relying on western JV to make easy money. They have brought no real advantage to the Chinese auto industry compared to private Chinese car companies. Its a good thing that their sales are collapsing. Hopefully in a couple years they will be wiped out and taken over by BYD,Chery , Geely and the likes. Government involvement in auto industry has been a rather abysmal one. They should exit the industry and let the private sector and market determine the leaders.

Chery and Geely are still making big advances in gasoline engines. These gasoline engines are the stealth fighters in the automobile industry.

Z9 sedan to be launched and N9 SUV to be displayed for the first time at Guangzhou auto show.

it continues to baffle me why people are excited about making "big advances" in old tech. gasoline engine is such weak old tech vs electric.
