Ships of the Standing NATO Maritime Group ONE (SNMG1) arrived in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, for a scheduled port visit February 5, during their deployment to the North and Baltic Seas to enhance maritime security and to contribute to international stability.
SNMG1’s visit to Amsterdam precedes the Group’s participation in an extensive training plan, which includes participation in several NATO and nationally-led exercises at sea.
SNMG1’s flagship, the Spanish F100 class frigate ESPS Alvaro de Bazan (F101), the UK Type 23 Frigate HMS Iron Duke (F234) and the Spanish Combat Replenishment Ship ESPS Cantabria (A15) were in port at Vlothavenweg 1013 BJ, Amsterdam.
Rear Admiral Jose Enrique Delgado assumed the command of the Group December 18 in a ceremony held in Cartagena, Spain.
Delgado said: “After a few days of training at sea with some of the most modern Royal Netherlands Naval Units, under challenging weather conditions, our crews are willing to enjoy a well-deserved shore leave in a most expected visit to Amsterdam. This brief halt in our sea training will allow us to get better prepared to face the upcoming operational commitments in the North Sea
