JAXA's Epsilon-6 rocket carrying 8 commercial satellites was forced to self-destruct after failing to reach its intended orbit.
This is notable in that this is the first rocket failure since 2003 for the Japanese space programme, whose H-II and Epsilon rocket families have been know for their reliability, albeit more expensive to launch than competitors from other nations.
This was also the first time an Epsilon rocket was tasked to carry private and commercial payloads instead of scientific instruments.
