I recently purchased a 2021 LG SP9YA soundbar to go with my 2018 LG 55E8 OLED TV. I wanted to check that Dolby Atmos was passing through to the soundbar correctly so I reached for a 4K Blu-Ray that has sat unwatched on my shelf for a while now: Disney's Moana (2016). I had to fiddle with a few settings on the TV and Playstation 5, but in the end it all worked.

... and wow. I really was not expecting to enjoy Moana as much as I did. From a visual standpoint it is simply phenomenal, with such wonderful colours that really pop on the HDR OLED display. I haven't seen many modern Disney/Pixar releases over the past decade, but if this is the standard now being achieved, it is quite remarkable. More importantly, the story was altogether charming and endearing as well, and explored its Polynesian cultural setting to good effect. I'm glad I finally got around to watching this one, and highly recommended as a film to be enjoyed by kids and adults alike.

I think CG animations do benefit more readily from better display technologies than live-action content. My best experience with my mid-range LED TV (75 inch, local dimming, quantum dots, 1300+ nits peak brightness, Dolby Vision IQ) was watching Light Chaser Animation's Green Snake on Tencent Video.

Sadly I don't think the Tencent stream (4K with Dolby Vision) is available outside China and the one they have on Netflix (1080P, no HDR) looks terrible in comparison. Really unfortunate because the film's animation and cinematography are just incredible.

Movie remake of Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre tv series and of the incomplete Jet Li movie "kung fu cult master" from the 90s. If you have watched the tv series, its pretty fun to also watch the movies. Obvious you have to open to new interpretations of the story line. A good 4 hr romp for the 2 movies vs grinding thru 40+ hours

One of my favorite 武俠 novels. So many details, storylines, and colorful characters, it's hard for a tv series or movie to do it justice. I hope the remake does a good job.

Unfortunately, this remake only scores a 3.5 out of 10 on douban.

It seems good 武俠 (wuxia) movies are rare nowadays. If you haven't seen Brotherhood of Blades 1 and 2, you might want to check them out. They are on youtube. The first one is not english subtitled, while the second one is. The second one is actually a prequel of the first.
