I'm not suggesting something like "if" they had a phaser, these creatures would've been taken care. I'm talking the logic of the laws they created in making this world and how it operates. I can go further into detail but that would giveaway the ending because it makes you wonder why they didn't do essentially that before? They say the movie is about family. I'll agree but a lot of their grief would've never had happened if they were smart. Yes there would be no movie if they were smart. That's were the storytellers have to fill the holes to make it smart. These creatures I wonder how they could've bested humanity to be at the top of the food chain. They couldn't see, they couldn't smell. All they had was supersensitive hearing. Bats are blind and have sensitive hearing but they also have sonar. These creatures did not have sonar. One of the children spent the night outside all by herself in the middle of no where knowing she was safe just as long she didn't make any noise. When they did make a noise (accidentally) and the creature from afar heard it, all the family had to do was wait and keep quiet long enough for the creature to arrive threading the needing around them looking for the source of the noise to then give up and leave. The "eureka" moment in the end only served to conclude the movie. Sure it helped but they didn't need it if they were smart. I just wrote basically how the creature operates. If you can think up from that information alone on how to handle them, you're most likely right without having to watch the movie.
