It's funny how Warner Bros. studio is aiming to campaign Wonder Woman as Best Picture for the academy awards after it's success at the box office. Spoiler time for those who haven't seen it... The story could've been Oscar worthy if they didn't have the God of War, Ares, as the ultimate villain in the movie. He didn't need to be there. Diana Prince goes throughout the movie believing Ares was the reason why WWI was happening to then find out men were monsters on their own and Ares had nothing to do with it. But then they had to have Ares show up and he did have a part by godly "whispering" into people's ears. They ruined their own message. They had to have a big boss battle in the end.

People attacked the movie, Gods of Egypt, for it's horrible visual special effects but the ultimate battle between Wonder Woman and Ares looked just as bad. It looked like first generation TV CGI.

I agree. The boss fight at the end was wholly unnecessary. It would not have altered the plot nor the realization by Diana that mankind itself is the one which brings upon himself his own misdeeds.

This is a movie I recommend from 2013. It's called "The Wind Rises." It's a Japanese film about the life and struggles of Dr. Jiro Horikoshi, the inventor of the Mitsubishi Zero, the bane of the allied forces in the Pacific. I would never condone the glorification of Japan's past, but this film struck a chord with me because it resounded so much of the struggles that Chinese designers went through when designing the J-10 from such meager resources and low technical starting point.

I'm sure you guys can find this old Ghibli film somewhere for free. I did but forgot where.
I've seen that anime, it's pretty good with a sad ending.

Last week was Discovery channel's annual Sharks Week. Man! I loved almost every single one of the shows they had (well, except that Phelps disappointment...).

These are the kinds of shows, along with shows like Mythbusters and Dirty Jobs, that made me fall in love with Discovery channel. Unfortunately, they decided to get rid of all of these educational shows. Discovery channel is now almost exclusively hot rod and survival channel. ALL shows on Discovery channel now belong to these two categories. you would be surprised how many varieties of wilderness survival shows they can come up with, different combinations of individual and teams. Then they decided to make all the contestants naked. Then they make them survive in complete darkness... I'll start watching it again when they move all the contestants to the moon.

It's so sad...

Yes I knew Phelps vs. great white was full of it which shouldn't surprise people since shark week before has had shows criticized for complete fiction like looking for the megalodon shark like it still existed. Next year they'll probably have sharknado chasers.

Yep! I knew with 120% certainty that Phelps would lose. There is no frigging way that a human, even Michael Phelps, would swim faster than a great white shark. I just wanted to see how they would do the testing. Then they came up that simulation crap...

I'm not sure which channel, Discovery or Animal Planet, did that mermaid show first. They also made it look like it was a documentary. It's indeed full of it. I was so confused at first because none of what they said made any sense. But the channel had such good credibility. I didn't know what to think. Then I did a search on the web and found out it was fake.

How many of you actually saw Sharknado? I think they got 5 of them now.

I saw the first one. I have to say that it's not so bad. It's a B movie. So you'll have to lower your expectation significantly. Once you do that, it's not so bad. But I only watched the first one and had no motivation whatsoever to watch any others.

I DVR them but usually I fast forward through them skipping the dialog. Next one is this upcoming Sunday. This time it's global.

I think it is still on Netflix.

Yep! All 4 of them! Let me see how many I can watch at one sitting this time... before I can't stand it anymore or before my wife yells at me to tell me to shut it (which was what happened last time when I saw the first one. I held on until the end though).
