Russia urged to ban 'Beauty and the Beast' remake over gay 'propaganda'
Moscow (CNN)A Russian lawmaker has urged that country's government to ban Disney's new "Beauty and the Beast" remake after labeling it "a blatant, shameless propaganda of sin and perverted sexual relationships."
The complaint was detailed in a letter sent by Vitaly Milonov to the Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky and reported by state-run news agency Ria Novsti. It says the movie should not be shown in Russia if the ministry found "elements of propaganda of homosexuality."
This is the best laugh I got today. Hercules was filmed in New Zealand, so very "patriotic" of the American actor working overseas to make a living.
Please, China haters, fund this movie now before it's too late. Almost a month has passed and they've only gotten $2,805 out of the $1,600,000 goal in pledges. LOL!!! It's backed by esteemed actors like Nick Searcy and Hercules himself, Kevin Sorbo. Watch... they'll blame a Chinese conspiracy why this movie failed to reach its goal.
One of the Hollywood trades recently had an article complaining about Chinese influence in Hollywood and claimed more movies like Moonlight, that won recently for Best Picture at the Oscars, would be made if China didn't have its influence in Hollywood. Really? Moonlight wouldn't have won if it weren't for the last two years of the Oscars-so-white controversy. They even know their complaining about Chinese investing in Hollywood is racially motivated that they forgot about the traditional racism in Hollywood hypocritically using Moonlight as an example of Hollywood "open-mindedness" to comfort themselves. The fact is Hollywood has made so many bombs without China being involved that they don't want to risk even their own money these days. A studio can go bankrupt just from one high-budget bomb.
I'll comment in such articles that they shouldn't do business with China then. "Get out of China!" All of them threaten that but when called-out they don't want that to happen because they still want Chinese paying to watch their movies. All of the sudden capitalist market principles are rejected if they're the ones that have to kiss butt to get consumers not like themselves to buy their product. All of the sudden the customer isn't always right. Just like Trump who outsources his signature line to other countries... It's not his fault that other countries allow him to make more money than manufacturing in the US! So he's not to blame for choosing to outsource jobs just so he can make more money for himself. All of the sudden the mantra of self-responsibility used against people and countries accused of being welfare "states" or criminals whining about suffering from abuse in the past as an excuse is all of the sudden not applicable when they don't want to take responsibility for their own actions.
I like Emma Watson, but no way in hell am I gonna watch this...lol!I'm afraid this is no good news. I don't plan to see this movie anyway.
I saw Ghost in a Shell last night. Pretty boring. My friend fell asleep during the movie and I was wondering if I should wake him up since he was wasting his money. He said he rather have slept. They were trying to give it a Blade Runner feel. It moved along rather slow. I was surprise after the movie ended it was less than two hours long. The action was pretty plain nothing you haven't seen before. Interesting there was that controversy of casting Scarlett Johansson as a Japanese woman. I'm not sure if this was added after the controversy or was already in the script but it was addressed storyline-wise. In real life I don't think it helped satisfy anyone who had a problem.
Although I thought it was rather cheesey myself, its worth a watch if there is nothing better to do. However I do not think it is as good as the better films based on Greek mythology though. So I finally got around to watch Gods of Egypt yesterday. The movie started a bit slow and hokey, and the Horus guy frequently got on my nerves, but all in all, it was a pretty interesting movie. It's on par with most blockbuster movies I've watched, with a deeper-than-average plot.
So it's utterly ridiculous that Rotten Tomatoes has this movie pegged at 12%. Hell, "2012" was 39% and it was so much cheesier. Honestly, "Avatar" wasn't that great and I'd say Gods of Egypt is easily on par with it. All of the transformers movies were a lot worse than Gods of Egypt.
So in conclusion, screw the critics! Form your own opinions.
