I saw La La Land the other night. A movie I wouldn't normally pay to watch in a theater. It was okay.
Here's my theory on why La La Land was made. This movie was written and directed by the same person who did the movie Whiplash. Whiplash was in the running to win Best Picture at the Oscars that year but it was beaten by Birdman. Birdman was about the struggle of actors. La La Land was about the struggle of entertainers in Hollywood. Both movies had Emma Stone acting in it. There's the joke that if you want to win awards for movies, make them about physically and mentally challenged people and the Holocaust. There's another one that will get you awards... make them about actors struggling because the Academy membership is filled with actors that vote. Now La La Land is predicted to win Best Picture this year at the Oscars.
