Re: Movies in General/ Star Trek etc etc

Avatar And My thoughts
good points too, Aliens, Ecology, the ducted fan aircraft, the mech suits, the sets,
bad goes too: the way the military are portrayed, having too route for the Aliens because the Military are so blood thirsty, Who ever was there military adviser.
Well the humans were part of a private company, and the military were hired mercenaries - so really the fact that they are bloodthirsty isn't too out there...

The shuttle, the helicopters, the mech suits, all the technology seemed very realistic I think, probably the most I've ever seen in a film. I espicially liked the tilt rotor choppers, you can draw a lot of parllels to modern day equivalents.
Avatar is easily the best film of the year.

What I didn't get was the floating mountains thing... it was a bit random =/

Avatar reminds me a lot of Aliens 2.

Starship with cryogenic passenger storage. Check.
Aliens - Xenomorphs vs. overgrown Smurfs. Check.
Jarheads. Check.
Mechs. Check.
Sigourney Weaver. Check.
Evil Corporate dude. Check.
Assault ship. Check.
Good dude. Michael Biehn vs. Sam Worthington. Check.
Humanity way over its head theme. Check.
Twin Rotor helos. That's from another James Cameron movie, Terminator 2.

Yeah, I was also trying to figure out how the heck those moutains are floating in the air. Clearly it's not because of lack of gravity since all the small creatures are stuck on the ground just fine. The only thing I came up with would be that there is a GIANT tree in the middle and its branches caught all the falling rocks which happen to be made of some very light material :D:D:D

Another possobility... Since the movie talks about the area with all the floating moutains has some weird magnetic field that screws up their instruments, it is possible that all the mountains floating on the top contain high level of iron, which makes the mountains to be repelled away from the magnetic field, which, in this case, is the ground.

they were listed as Marines not mercs they were compared too mercs and gunslingers but there characters were stated as Military.
and the mountains were drawn from the Chinese, Huang Shan mountains

I Watched another film yesterday that I liked more though. Sherlock Holmes, I liked it as They managed too pull it off with A out making Watson look like a tool, B displaying the kind of wonder and amazement I always had with Holmes C playing the relations ships nicely, And D the "eyes and brains" were all there. and the actors although not my first picks for there rolls played them well.

This thread is not about your avatar on this forum, but the Avatar movie which have just been screened recently.

Wonder why nobody have started discussing this wonderful movie. However, there is something I don't understand why the film maker made it that way. For example, the movie is about an era that human can travel in space and colonize other planet, but why their weapons are only slightly better what we are having now?
