Re: Movies in General/ Star Trek etc etc

what do you think about the movie, compared to the 1st one? We've been waiting a long time for the movie to come out.

I never watched the first one so I cant compare. and neither did I watch the film long enough to get the storyline. It may be good but I think they left the traditional Chinese kung fu style of film making and modernised it for the younger generation with the pretty boy and girl approach, I hearthrobs for the girls and vice versa for the boys.

THe minute I heard the background music I went right off the film.Typical young Asian romantic easy listening stuff.... yuck.. and i think i saw a attempted kiss.... yuck ( cant have that in a eastern Western), did you ever see those western gunslingers kissing?

ill give it another go when Im in a better mood even though I find the storyline jerky.

By the way isnt one of those actresses Japanese, I think i recognise her by her ears,

now that makes a change from another part of the female anatomy.

Now this grumpy old fart is gonna carry on like you teenage fan boys, sigh sigh heartt throbbing crush crush, when girls appear..... argghhhhh

2012, Entertaining, but remeber to leave your brain at the door

Don't want to reveal too much spoilers or anything, but if you think about it, the survival of the human species was suddenly entrusted to the Chinese shipbuilding industry and the PLA to build a fleet of ships far larger, far more survivable by than any aircraft carrier on the planet---and then completely pass up the golden opportunity to make Chinese people the one and only surviving race in the planet.

Well I'm not sure if it was the chinese shipbuilding industry only... It was almost the whole world pouring it's resources into these ships.

Also, I heard from my dad that apparently 2012 was cleared very quickly through the chinese movie censoring people, because this movie doesn't disrespect the PRC. If anything, it portrays the PRC and PLA relatively positively. Apparently it was because the director, emmerich commended the PLA's role in the Sichuan earthquakes last year. :nana:

Well I don't plan to watch 2012 because I think Roland Emmerich movies are crap. Interesting to read about the China part. I suspected that would generate a lot of offended people. Normally I could care less but I just find people who can't tell the difference from fiction and reality absolutely fascinating and entertaining and they are intensly emotional about it. So I checked out aint-it-cool news and sure enough there's one guy there so offended by the Chinese angle in this movie that he's going on a rant equivalent to outrage over the holocaust. He's angrily going on how the Chinese would never do this or that following the stereotypes of a police state even during a disaster. He mentions something about these arks are being built in Tibet and the Chinese would never allow Westerners there in the first place because they want to hide the oppression going on there. Even during the destructuction of the world? Oh and get this, he claims he's an American living in China. Makes you wonder how he's posting from China living in a police state that censors the internet.

This one gets a place in the hall of shame along with the guy I heard about dressed up as Yoda watching the premiere of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. He was in the restroom of the movie theatre crying over the anti-Republican political overtones of the movie. So emotional that he was trying to start a campaign right there to get Congress to force George Lucas to redo the movie and make they Jedi into the terrorist-loving enemy of the story.

I personally am not so surprised at the fact that some people would be "offended" by how China isn't being portrayed negatively in this film. It seems that a movie is being biased if it shows the People's Republic not being evil. Hmmm:D

Its conditioning, and its only a movie geez . In the movie world I like bad guys I enjoy Gernmans and Russians as our nemesis, besides they don'tcome across as good guys as well IMHO.
How many A grade pictures have the Chinese as the Badies, and count Gere out, as none all his movies with a Chinese element are A grade.

Re: Movies in General/ Star Trek etc etc

Anyone seen the latest Star Trek Film.
Having been a Trekky fan from the Television series I found it rather difficult looking at a different bunch of actors playing the role of the original characters.
I pre-ordered the Star Trek movie and will be downloading it HD to iTunes tonight. I'm kind of charged about watching it and have heard a lot of good things about it from friends who went to the theater to see it.

Been watching the Star Trek stuff since its inception in 1966 (when I was 10 years old) and through all of the spin-offs.

A couple of movies I recently downloaded and really enjoyed were:

Transformers 2. Great action and special effects.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Outstanding prequal to the other X-Men films

Gosh you must have a pretty good set up at home, as some of movies are best seen on a large screen, or you just dont like going to the movies

I wouldn't mind Chinese playing the bad guys if they actually gave him or her the intelligence to be a bad guy. But of course the Chinese being the epic villain have to be inept and weak at the same time. I've seen pics coming out of the Red Dawn remake. Of course all the Chinese soldiers look like skinny little geeks playing soldier at a Comic Con convention.
