I been knew. But I never thought Cambodia, a poor country hard hit by Khmer Rouge with a poorly trained and armed army, would be filled with cell phones... :D

But what you said, that's up to date!

Cambodia is such a strange country. In other countries, every home has a land-line, but here, every person has a cellphone. You'll find very few homes using land-line. I think the reason is due to the land-line companies are being hold / or half hold by government, and their service are extremely bad. For example, connection a new line is troublesome and expensive, you have to pay $50 for connection fee and $200 for deposit, and those people always ask for "unofficial money" to get the job done fast. Furthermore, while using their service, phone lines are always disconnected, when you ask them to re-connect, they ask for money. To use a cellphone, you buy a phone you like, and pay $10 for SIM card, and everything is done. Because people like to use pre-paid card service, you don't need bill, you don't need to go to the telephone company. You can get everything done at any phone shop near by you. So, would you choose land-line over cellphone?

Cambodia adopted democracy in 1993, it's been 16 years since then. With nearly 1 billion foreign aid every year, it should have been well developed if the government did their job well. It's not a ruined country like what you've thought. But, well... It's not the topic of this thread.

I ended up getting a Nokia 1208 prepaid for 50 AUD, should be enough for now, will probably upgrade to a smart phone sometime in the future once I think of the uses for one.

Thats cool, smart move as it doest cost you anything to change to an account, but there usually are penalties the other way around.

Another handy tip, but its up to you to decide, Dont activate the cell phone answering service, make the caller ring again at his expense, or at the start of your answering service message, ask the caller to leave a text as you don' t respond to your answerphone.

Saves money that way, but it may not be advisable if its a business phone.

Yeah, you finally choose the range of phone I recommanded. When I decided to purchase the 1202, I did consider the 1208 too. But I finally choose the 1202, for it's slighter and thinner, and $2 cheaper. The color screen of the 1208 doesn't mean anything to me because it's not full color.

They're all the same - they can make calls and texts. Don't bother getting anything flashy. Cheap and reliable is what you want by the sound of it. Anything from the major brands would be fine. Whatever you can get the best deal on for your contract of pay as you go plan.

As a word of advice, if it looks cheap it's less likely to be stolen.

I wonder why they are going out of flip phones. I prefer them to sliders and i don't like using keypad lock for the flat ones. Most of the time I wear jeans and the buttons keep getting pressed.

Put the auto-lock on. You can set it for however a short a period as you like - e.g. 3 seconds. I used to have the same problem when my mobile was in my jacket pocket. Doesn't happen now with the auto-lock on.

Speaking about cellphones and robustness what about this nokia phone, dust won't affect it, has decent camera and is splash resistent, not sure about price though.
