Exactly right. Every day there's a dozen articles on why/how the US, UK, JP, et al should strengthen their military capabilities and none of them identify the costs or where the money would come from. Here's an example
not just that, do they not know that 1/4 of Panama has Chinese ancestry and 68% have Native American ancestry?

Did the DPP pay for this article? Really a big joke, typical DPP sloganeering replacing actions (Make love instead of electricity! Blackouts are fine!)
I had just written a post touching on this subject in the Taiwan thread.
- As pointed out by @Temstar, there are numerous Taiwanese in mainland China. It would not require any sort of surreptitious action to obtain a Pineapple plant.
- No they are not. $49m is a footnote in mainland-Taiwan trade ($190b in exports from Taiwan to mainland). It is even just a footnote in PRC fruit consumption. Durian was valued at $4b... just durian! The only thing right is the Pineapple ban previously enacted was a targeted action against DPP constituents.
Hmmm... what changed in 2016? I think there was a change in leadership? Didn't that new leadership also scrap a free trade agreement that the previous administration had been working on, and both sides put a lot of effort into? In fact, heralded as one of the greatest thaws in cross-strait relations, but thrown out the window like a common snot rag by the new leadership?
In fact, China does not even grant patents for natural plants (.), so such a consideration would have been specially created for Taiwan had it gone through.

Yeah, greatly dishonest American government. Imagine if China took pictures of poor central Asians and Russian migrant workers as proof of "white western poverty and illegal immigration".
If you have nothing honest to say, it's better to keep your mouth shut. Doing otherwise is just spreading a culture of lying within your country, which has no long term benefits.
