You must truly put China on a pedistal to think that this is weak. Only if China were a supreme force in the world would it be able to inflict injuries on the US, not just the ROC, for insulting it with a simple meeting. It is a hegemonic level of power that is required. America is supposed to be the world hegemon; it is no more, but still the most powerful in many areas. It can do nothing as China welcomes wave after wave of anti-Western leaders to Beijing cementing them in alliance, and it is once again helpless seeing China take apart the foundation of American dominance, which is the power of the US dollar. In the face of this, the US and the ROC, after much hesitation and back and forth, planned a trip for a meeting between the US and a territory that China does not control, to do nothing that couldn't be done by calls and emails. And you expect China to do what in order to not appear "weak"? Bomb somebody? LOL
Except you changed the definition with China's rise in power. The Century of Humiliation used to mean when Western forces invaded China and divided it into spheres of influence. Then they backed out of China and the definition meant to militarily intimidate China such as sailing thier navy in China's declared missile testing zones daring China to fire. Then China's military ascended and the definition became to sail a military ship barely touching the 12 mile line of China's (sometimes artificially constructed) claimed territories trying to look as innocent as possible ignoring harrassment from Chinese forces. Now the Century of Humiliation apparently means to you that US leaders can still have meetings with hanjian from a Chinese territory that China did not take control over. In the future, it's gonna mean when US leaders still chat with hanjian in exile. The Century of Humiliation in your eyes will never end unless China enslaves the world. It's almost as if you were looking for excuses so you can pretend that China is still in the Century of Humiliation and thus hasn't made progress in a hundred years. Almost.
